Jason

Jason

* We are shocked and saddened to report that Travis and Jason have both passed away. Everything went normally with their neuters, and both surgeries were routine and uneventful. But the next morning, Jason was struggling. He was rushed to the vet, but was sadly beyond help. As a precaution, Travis had an exam at the vet. He was behaving normally, so he was sent back to his foster home. Travis was doing well over the next few hours – active and eating, but the next morning, his foster family awakened to find he had passed away during the night….   read more >>

Gwen’s baby

Gwen's babies 1 day old

Shortly after her arrival, Gwen gave birth. We had no idea she was pregnant, but she had four babies during the night. Quite a surprise for her foster mom to wake up to. Unfortunately, this little baby didn’t make it, but the other three are doing well so far. Gwen is a VERY protective mom, and she’s telling off everyone who comes near her babies. Understandable, after everything she has been through. She just wants to keep her babies safe. Rest in peace, little hedgehog baby.

Wilhelm

Wilhelm

We’re so sad. Our sweet Wilhelm passed away. He was doing really well the days after his dental surgery, and we were excited for him to recover and finally be able to eat without trouble and pain. But he then became quiet and didn’t want to eat. Despite medication, supplemental feeding, and advice from our vets, Wilhelm went downhill quickly, and he passed away during the night. We are devastated. An autopsy showed that Wilhelm’s stomach had twisted, which is an unfortunate condition that guinea pigs can suffer from without warning. Our hearts go out to Wilhelm’s foster family, and…   read more >>

Selena

Selena

Selena ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was not claimed. We were happy to get this adorable girl out of the shelter when a foster home came available. We took Selena to the vet on her rescue day for a health check and to be spayed. She was a healthy young kitty by all accounts. Blood work was normal, heart and lungs were clear. Her spay surgery was routine, and without incident. But during recovery, Selena crashed. The vet and staff spent more than fifteen minutes trying everything they could to resuscitate her, but it was…   read more >>

Patton

Patton

* After four happy years as a permanent resident, sweet Patton passed away in the loving arms of his forever foster family. When his physical and cognitive health issues got to be too much, Patton told his family he was ready, and they loved him right until the end. We want to thank Patton’s forever foster family for taking such great care of this little guy for so long. We know it wasn’t always easy, but we know he would have thanked you himself if he could. Rest in peace, sweet Patton. We’ll never forget your adorable face. Because of…   read more >>

Prince Phillip

Prince Phillip

On November 2nd, 2021, Ladybird rescue Maleficent gave birth to seven babies. On November 12th, Madam Mim gave birth to 4 babies. They raised their babies together, and after being given a clean bill of health at the vet, everyone except for Prince Phillip and Diaval found their forever homes. Diaval and Prince Phillip were sweet and curious boys, and though we had hoped they would find a forever home together, they developed a respiratory condition that they just couldn’t shake. They had many vet visits, and were on several rounds of different medications over the months, but our vets have…   read more >>

Tiffany

Rest in peace Tiffany

Despite supplemental feeding, medical treatment and around the clock care, Tammy, Tony, and Tiffany passed away one by one during the night. It’s suspected they had panleukopenia, but test results haven’t yet come back to confirm that. We are heartbroken. Thankfully, mama Tina’s health is improving and her diarrhea has mostly subsided. She’ll need a few more days at the vet before she can be moved to a foster home. We want to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Stubbs and the staff at West Park Animal Hospital for going above and beyond for this little feline family. We’re…   read more >>

Tammy rescue day

We are sad to report that Tammy lost her fight, only four days after coming into our care. Hannah

Hannah @ vet

Hannah was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when her owner could no longer care for her. At six years old, Hannah is a senior, as far as guinea pigs go. She’s a lovely little pig, but because of some issues she had while she was at the shelter, staff reached out to us for help. When she arrived at the shelter, Hannah had urine scalding on her hind end and feet, and she was having issues with her urine. We took Hannah directly to the vet where an xray showed that she was suffering from bladder sludge. Bladder sludge is a…   read more >>

Bobby

Bobby

Rossa and Bobby were rescued from Hamilton Animal Services after they were found as “strays.” Bobby is blind, Rossa has a bladder issue, and they both desperately need dental surgeries. They also both have a few lumps and bumps that need to be removed. We got Bobby and Rossa out of the shelter and into a foster home where they’re doing great so far. At their initial vet visit, it was discovered that Bobby has a thyroid issue, so he’s been started on mediation for that, and he’s now on multiple medical drops for dry eye. Blood and urine tests were…   read more >>

Lord Nigel Featherstone

Lord Nigel Featherstone (Nigel for short) was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. This poor bird was in terrible shape. He had several wounds all over his body, he was missing feathers, he was extremely thin, and his nails and beak were overgrown. He wouldn’t perch in his cage at the shelter and would only sit at the bottom of the cage. We’ll never know what trauma poor Nigel had been through, but it must have been so frightening for him. We got Nigel to the vet on his rescue day, and got him started on…   read more >>

Cheerio

Cheerio

This sweet old girl was found as a very matted stray, and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Shortly after her arrival, shelter staff shaved off as many of the larger mats they were able to. Within the twigs, burrs, and debris found in the mats, there was a Cheerio. Definitely one of the strangest things shelter staff had seen come off of a matted cat! Staff named her Cheerio, and we thought that was a very appropriate name. 🙂 Cheerio was extremely thin, and blood work done at the shelter showed she was hyperthyroid. She was also desperately in need…   read more >>

Bessie

Bessie

We had to say goodbye to our sweet Bessie. Her health issues became too much for her little body to continue on, and she was let go peacefully in her forever foster mama’s arms. Her words are below. Rest in peace sweet Bessie. We’ll never forget you. Our sweet Bessie girl was here for a good time, not a long time. Words can’t express the impact this little girl had on me and everyone she met. From the minute we sprung her from the shelter she was non stop smiles, tail wags and snuggles, and made herself right at home…   read more >>

Auggie

Auggie

UPDATE: January 30th, 2023 A few weeks ago we posted about the devastating loss of Auggie – a very sweet black kitty that was rescued back in November. We always kind of knew that if Auggie had pulled through he would have inevitably been a foster-fail, as his foster family were clearly falling in love with him. Yesterday, when his foster family went to pick up his ashes from the vet, they reached out to us asking if they could officially adopt him. We can’t recall, in our history as a rescue, ever seeing a post-mortem request to adopt a…   read more >>

Penelope

Penelope

We’re heartbroken. What was thought to be a simple surgery to fix an abscess, ended up in a devastating diagnosis. Aside from already being in gastrointestinal stasis over the weekend, Penelope’s pre-surgical exam revealed significant weight loss in the last five days, generalized muscle wasting, and that her dewlap masses had doubled in size and number. A chain of approximately 10 masses extended from between her jaw bones to the right dewlap. Blood tests revealed a very low white blood cell count consistent with sepsis (caused by a severe and potentially life-threatening bacterial infection). Fine needle aspirates were collected from…   read more >>

Puddles

Puddles

Puddles was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. During her time there, staff noticed blood in her cage, so they reached out to us for help. We got Puddles out of the shelter and straight to the vet. An x-ray revealed that Puddles has bladder stones which are hard, stone-like structures usually composed of calcium carbonate which form in the bladder. Puddles was at the vet for a couple of days while she waited for surgery, and during that time, staff noticed a lot of blood in her cage. It was clear that the amount of…   read more >>

Didi

Didi

November 30, 2022 We had to say goodbye to sweet Didi. Since the last update, Didi’s health went downhill. The ultrasound performed the week before showed a mass on her kidney, and the biopsy of the facial scabs had come back as cancerous. Though these two things would have been an issue, we still don’t know exactly what was causing the infection in Didi’s system that was making her so ill. She spent three days at the vet clinic, and though she received every available treatment possible, she just couldn’t fight all the issues that were plaguing her. At the…   read more >>
