Rachel

Rachel

We rescued Ross and Rachel from a high-volume shelter in Quebec yesterday! Big thanks to the Freedom Drivers: Animal Rescue Transport volunteers for the lift to Hamilton! Ross and Rachel are both suffering with an upper respiratory virus, so they’re currently at our vet for treatment before they go to their foster home. They’re active and happy otherwise, so their prognoses is good. Hopefully they will be free of the virus soon and can start the journey to finding their forever home together! Welcome to Ladybird Ross and Rachel!

Dot

Dot

May 25th, 2017 We really don’t like having to bring you bad news, but our sweet little Dot has passed away. She started to show signs of illness over the past couple of days, and despite vet visits over those days, and an emergency vet visit late last night, whatever illness that had a hold of Dot’s wee body would not let go, and she passed away in the loving arms of her foster dad early this morning. We send our heartfelt condolences to Dot’s foster dad, and we want to thank him, and the vets who did their best…   read more >>

Lovebird

Lovebird

These two lovely lovebirds came from a high-volume shelter in Quebec. Big thanks to Freedom Drivers volunteers for delivering the birds to Hamilton for us! One of the birds is missing a foot, but it doesn’t seem to bother her much. They just arrived, but they’re cheerful and chirping and have a healthy appetite. They’ll see a vet for a check-up and be available for adoption shortly after if everything goes well. We’ll have names for you soon! Welcome to Ladybird lovely lovebirds!

Ruban

Ruban rescue day

Ruban was found wandering the streets of Hamilton with duct tape wrapped tightly around one of his legs. When animal control officers noticed a foul smell coming from the leg, they rushed him directly to the vet. When the vet removed the tape, a real mess was found underneath. Ruban had a large, oozing wound there that was severely infected. The duct tape had made matters worse because it had been wrapped so tightly. Xrays showed that the leg was not broken, but Ruban was clearly in pain from his injury. He was kept at the vet for a few…   read more >>

Nutella

Nutella @ HAC

Nutella was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Nutella was in very rough shape when he arrived at HAC. He was extremely thin, suffering from eye infections, had a large abscess under his chin and several broken teeth. Nutella was taken straight to the vet where the abscess was treated, and two of the severely broken teeth were removed under sedation. He’s now on three medications to help with the infection and pain. Our vets are hopeful that in the next couple of weeks Nutella will be well enough to have dental surgery he requires, but he needs…   read more >>

Willy

Willy @ foster

* Willy found his forever home with a lovely family! * Willy came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. We are shocked that nobody came forward to claim him since he’s such a friendly boy. We got Willy a dental cleaning and had him neutered, and now he’s ready start the journey to find his forever home! Here’s a note from Willy’s foster home: “Likes: pools, baths, toys, tennis balls, people, walks, fetch, car rides, food, dogs Dislikes: being left alone Are you looking for a talented, veteran short-stop for your team?? Then Willy is your guy!! A typical…   read more >>

May

May and babies @ HAC

May and her five kittens were brought into Hamilton Animal Control after being found in a homeowner’s shed. The babies are about a week and a half old and so darn cute! Dr. Fleming at Guelph Animal Hospital and her staff were kind enough to take on May and her babies to foster. We know the little family are in very good hands with Dr. Fleming! Staff at the clinic discovered that one of May’s babies has a congenital limb deformity! They’ve named him Pretzel. How adorable is that?! Dr. Fleming and her team are treating Pretzel with massage, acupuncture and…   read more >>

Dexter

Dexter @ foster

Dexter was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. He was initially very shy, but after a few days in the shelter, he became a staff favourite. He’s such a lovely boy! We were happy to rescue Dexter when a foster home opened up for him. His vet check and neuter went wonderfully, and he’s now ready to find his forever home! Here’s a note from Dexter (translated from cat-speak by his loving foster home): “Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself! My name is DEXTER! I am a kitten. The name Dexter means: dexterous and favourable. I am…   read more >>

April

April and kittens @ HAC

April came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She had given birth to one kitten on the finder’s porch earlier in the day. HAC staff made her comfortable, and kept a close eye on her thinking she would have more, but April only had one baby. A couple of days later, a single kitten was found alone in the attic of a home. There was no mother to be found, so the homeowner brought the kitten to HAC. Staff members introduced this kitten to April, and she took to him like he was her own. He is a little…   read more >>

Jake

Jake @ foster

We rescued Jake from Hamilton Animal Control. He ended up at HAC as a stray who was never claimed. Jake is shy, but very sweet. He was not happy about being in the shelter and would cower in the corner of his cage all day. He did appreciate head pats and chin scratches from the staff though, so they knew he wasn’t a feral cat. Just extremely shy and scared of his surroundings. We were happy to rescue Jake when a foster home opened up for him. He went straight from HAC to the vet where he had a check-up,…   read more >>

Stormy

Stormy @ foster

Stormy came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Stormy has been neutered and declawed (all four paws), so he certainly belonged to someone, but nobody came looking for him at the shelter. Stormy was severely matted and infested with fleas. His skin was red and raw from scratching. He seemed to be experiencing pain in his eyes. He was squinting, and there was an obvious ulcer in one eye. Staff at the shelter started him on eye medication to try to help. Once Stormy’s stray time was done, we were happy to get him out of the shelter and…   read more >>

Buster

Buster adopted

Hamilton Animal Control picked Buster up as a stray. He was in pretty rough shape; matted, covered in fleas, ear and eye infections, dental disease, open sores on his legs and tail… Buster was just a mess. Because of his terrible condition, the animal control officer who picked Buster up took him straight to the vet. There, he was shaved down and given basic treatment to alleviate his discomfort. He was then taken to the shelter.  Buster’s owner’s family were notified he was at the shelter, but it turns out his owner was in the hospital. A family member came…   read more >>

Daisy

Daisy @ HAC

UPDATE – April 3/17 After several tests, we still don’t know why Daisy is having such horrible bowl issues. Extensive fecal testing showed nothing. Blood tests showed nothing. X-rays showed what the vet called an “angry bowel” but there wasn’t any obvious reason on the x-ray images that showed what is making Daisy’s insides to be as unhappy as they are. The vet has switched her to a hypoallergenic diet in hopes that it will solve the problem. Fingers crossed! We want to send a big thank you out to Daisy’s foster mom for putting up with Daisy’s poop problems….   read more >>
