George

George @ foster

George came into Hamilton Animal Control with a very large wound on his side. It’s unknown how he got the wound or what caused it…we do know it was pretty nasty though! HAC staff sent George to the vet where the wound was treated. Though it took a while, and he had to endure a drainage tube for some time, the wound is now healed and George doesn’t seem any worse for wear. George is microchipped, but despite all efforts by HAC staff, George’s owner couldn’t be reached, and nobody came looking for him. Strangely enough, George has no teeth….   read more >>

Greta

Greta @ HAC

Greta came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She was very scared and stressed by everything happening to her there and she seemed to the staff to be semi-feral. One HAC staff member could see Greta’s potential though, and worked with her every day to get her to come out of her shell. Two months of gentle handling and gaining Greta’s trust did wonders!  Greta is now a sweet and snuggly girl, whose purr never shuts off. We’re thankful for that staff member’s commitment and dedication to Greta.  It literally saved her life. Before she left HAC, Greta was…   read more >>

Wonton

Wonton @ foster

Wonton was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control by his owners because of allergies in the family. He’s a friendly hamster, and so cute! Wonton is a lovely little guy. He likes to be held and even sits happily for top-of-the-head scritches! His foster home report that he enjoys exploring when he’s out for exercise, and when he’s in his cage, his evenings are spent running on his wheel. He likes a variety of fruit, veggies and other snacks, as well as his regular hamster food. Wonton had a vet appointment with Dr. Bhan at Main West Animal Hospital and he…   read more >>

Daisy

Daisy rescue day

Daisy was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control by her owner when her owner became too ill to care for her. Daisy’s owner was heartbroken to have to leave her at the shelter, but efforts to place Daisy with family or friends were unsuccessful, and her owner was not physically able to look after Daisy any longer. Daisy was not happy about being in the shelter. She’d been with her owner since she was six months old, so she was understandably confused and stressed. A Ladybird foster home opened up fairly quickly and we were thrilled to be able to get…   read more >>

Mary Jane

Mary Jane

A week before Christmas, Mary Jane was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control by her owner because her owner was moving. At twelve and a half years old, after being with one owner since she was a puppy, Mary Jane was understandably confused, stressed and upset about being left in a cage in a noisy shelter instead of at home with her family. Thankfully, it only took us a couple of days to line up a foster home for Mary Jane and organize her rescue. We picked her up from HAC and took her straight to the vet. She has some…   read more >>

Sterling

Sterling rescue day

Sterling was found loose in the driveway of the Hamilton Animal Control building. He was unable to use his back legs, but was still alert and trying to hop around. It’s disheartening that someone took the time to bring Sterling all the way to the shelter, but then dumped him in the driveway instead of bringing him inside…especially in the condition he was in. HAC staff sent Sterling to the vet, and xrays showed that he had serious thinning of his bones and muscle wasting, likely due to long-term lack of proper nutrition. He was sent back to the shelter…   read more >>

Vincent

Vincent adopted

* Vincent was adopted by his foster family! Yay! * Vincent was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Shortly after Vincent’s arrival at HAC, staff noticed that he was straining to urinate and was clearly in pain. They sent Vincent to the vet where he received treatment to unblock his urinary tract. The treatment worked very well and he was sent back to the shelter on a special diet to help insure he didn’t block again. During the next few weeks Vincent spent at the shelter, he became a staff favourite. He’s a total love bug! Head bonks…   read more >>

Charlie

Charlie adopted

* Charlie’s foster family fell head over heels for him, and they decided he should stay forever! Yay Charlie! * Charlie came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray and was never claimed. He’s a real sweetheart, but is quite overweight! We rescued him from HAC and took him to the vet for a check-up. Thankfully, Charlie is pretty healthy! His blood tests came back mostly normal, but he needs to lose some weight before he can have the neuter and dental cleaning surgery he needs. The lovely folks at Yellow Dog Grooming donated their services to get Charlie looking and feeling…   read more >>

Henderson

Henderson

Henderson has been adopted by Dr. Martin of Animal Hospital of Stoney Creek. Yay!   Henderson was found outside on the street, alone and limping. A concerned citizen called Hamilton Animal Control. Officers came to pick Henderson up and they brought him to one of the vet clinics they work with. Turns out, Henderson has a severely broken back leg. The vets thought by the looks of the bone that the break was old. Poor Henderson had been living in severe pain for quite a while. We transferred Henderson to our vets and they had the same thoughts about it…   read more >>

Tofu

Tofu @ HAC

* Chicory and Tofu have been adopted by their foster home! Yay! * A citizen came into Hamilton Animal Control carrying a large Rubbermaid bin containing three adult cats that they claimed they had found. It was pretty clear that Chicory and Tofu were brothers, and the third cat was likely not related. Strangely, Chicory and the other cat were already neutered but Tofu was not. After waiting out their stray time, the third cat went into HAC’s pilot adoption program through PetSmart, and he was quickly adopted. Chicory and Tofu are friendly cats, but they would have been too shy to…   read more >>

Mickey

Mickey and Santa

* Mickey found his forever home with lovely people! Yay! *   Mickey came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. One of Mickey’s eyes is cloudy and the other is protruding. He is likely blind, or only has a very limited vision. Mickey’s nails were quite overgrown and his ears needed a good cleaning. He was in pretty rough shape. HAC staff sent Mickey to the vet, and the vet sent him back to the shelter with some eye medication. Mickey was not happy being in a cage in a noisy shelter. All he wanted was to be with people….   read more >>

Sweet Potato

Sweet Potato @ foster

* Sweet Potato found her forever home with a lovely person! * Twenty pounds of Sweet Potato love! Sweet Potato came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. How a declawed, twenty pound cat who only wants to take a few steps before laying down becomes a stray is a mystery to us, but we digress… Despite having a pretty bad flea infestation, and a very dirty bum from not being able to turn to clean it, Sweet Potato is as sweet as they come. HAC staff got her bum cleaned up and administered flea treatment, and she seemed to…   read more >>

Goldie

Goldie - photo by Willow Bean Photography

What a tale Goldie has to tell. Goldie’s owner showed up to Hamilton Animal Control to surrender her. When the owner was told there was a fee to surrender an animal, she caused a scene, verbally abused the shelter staff and abruptly left the shelter, taking Goldie with her. Shelter staff didn’t even get as far as being able to ask any info about Goldie, or why she was being surrendered. A few minutes later, another customer came in, carrying Goldie. This customer had watched Goldie’s owner take her to the field at the back of the parking lot, dump…   read more >>
