Tofu

Tofu @ HAC

A citizen came into Hamilton Animal Control carrying a large Rubbermaid bin containing three adult cats that they claimed they had found. It was pretty clear that Chicory and Tofu were brothers, and the third cat was likely not related. Strangely, Chicory and the other cat were already neutered but Tofu was not. After waiting out their stray time, the third cat went into HAC’s pilot adoption program through PetSmart, and he was quickly adopted. Chicory and Tofu are friendly cats, but they would have been too shy to be in a store environment. And likely too big for the cages there!…   read more >>

Mickey

Mickey @ HAC

Mickey came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. One of Mickey’s eyes is cloudy and the other is protruding. He is likely blind, or only has a very limited vision. Mickey’s nails were quite overgrown and his ears needed a good cleaning. He was in pretty rough shape. HAC staff sent Mickey to the vet, and the vet sent him back to the shelter with some eye medication. Mickey was not happy being in a cage in a noisy shelter. All he wanted was to be with people. The shelter was stressing him out. Poor old guy… Mickey’s owner…   read more >>

Sweet Potato

Sweet Potato @ HAC

Twenty pounds of Sweet Potato love! Sweet Potato came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. How a declawed, twenty pound cat who only wants to take a few steps before laying down becomes a stray is a mystery to us, but we digress… Despite having a pretty bad flea infestation, and a very dirty bum from not being able to turn to clean it, Sweet Potato is as sweet as they come. HAC staff got her bum cleaned up and administered flea treatment, and she seemed to be very thankful for both those things. On the day of her…   read more >>

Goldie

Goldie @ HAC

What a tale Goldie has to tell. Goldie’s owner showed up to Hamilton Animal Control to surrender her. When the owner was told there was a fee to surrender an animal, she caused a scene, verbally abused the shelter staff and abruptly left the shelter, taking Goldie with her. Shelter staff didn’t even get as far as being able to ask any info about Goldie, or why she was being surrendered. A few minutes later, another customer came in, carrying Goldie. This customer had watched Goldie’s owner take her to the field at the back of the parking lot, dump…   read more >>

Babs

Babs @ foster

Babs was found alone and soaking wet under a bush in the Flamborough area. The kind citizen who found Babs checked the area for a mother cat or any siblings, but neither could be found. They then brought Babs to Hamilton Animal Control so she could get the care she needed. Babs is only about three weeks old, and too young to be away from her mom. The staff at HAC warmed Babs up, fed her and staff members took her home over the weekend so she could be looked after around the clock. Once Babs’ “stray time” was done,…   read more >>

Jenny

Jenny rescue day

Jenny came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She’s missing her back feet! We’ll never know for sure why her paws are missing, but our vets think it is likely a birth defect. One of her stumps has developed a good callus, but the other was open and bleeding when we rescued her. Our vets wrapped up the bleeding leg and she’ll have a follow up appointment in a couple of days to see how it’s doing. Jenny was also suffering from a nasty case of ear mites. Ear mites are awful and extremely itchy for a normal cat,…   read more >>

Caramel

Caramel

Chip and Caramel came into Hamilton Animal Control as strays. They’re only about four weeks old, which is too young to be away from their mom. Another kitten named Boo was placed with them, but Chip and Carmel mistook Boo’s groin area for a good place to suckle, and that didn’t go very well for Boo, so he was separated from them. You can see Boo’s story here. Somehow, Carmel hurt her leg and wasn’t putting weight on it. We had her x-rayed at the vet, and thankfully, the leg isn’t broken. It’s very swollen though! She’s been started on…   read more >>

Sprinkles

Sprinkles @ HAC

Sprinkles, and several other cats and dogs (including Morrie) ended up at Hamilton Animal Control when they were removed from their home due to the poor conditions there. When Sprinkles arrived at HAC, she was covered in fleas and was suffering from an upper respiratory virus. Shelter staff started her on medication and gave her a flea treatment. Thanks to the care Sprinkles received, she was feeling much better by the time we were able to rescue her. Not 100%, but definitely better! Sprinkles is a super friendly little girl. Always has her purr on and has lots of energy….   read more >>

Morrie

Morrie @ vet

Morrie and several other dogs and cats ended up at Hamilton Animal Control when they were removed from their home due to the poor conditions there. Thankfully, other than fleas and some matting, Morrie was in pretty good health when he arrived at the shelter. And he has a lovely, happy personality! We rescued Morrie from HAC and took him straight to the vet. At his vet visit he got a clean bill of health, so he will be neutered right away. We’re just getting to know this cute guy, but he’s really friendly so far! He has lots of…   read more >>

Boo

Boo @ vet

Little Boo came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. He was placed with two other unrelated kittens (Caramel and Chip) who were close in age. Unfortunately, it seems these two mistook Boo’s groin area for the perfect place to suckle. They were clearly missing their mom since they were too young to be away from her. The two kittens caused a bit of trauma to Boo’s business, and he started to have trouble peeing. Off to the vet! Boo was suffering from a pretty bad infection, and the fantastic folks at Animal Hospital of Stoney Creek worked very hard…   read more >>

Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin Spice @ HAC

Autumn and Pumpkin Spice came into Hamilton Animal Control as strays. It’s possible that they are mother and daughter, but we’ll never know for sure. These sweet girls were HAC staff favourites because of their lovely personalities. HAC had Autumn and Pumpkin Spice spayed through the Ontario Vet Association program. When they were returned to the shelter after their surgeries, we had a foster spot open up and we were happy to rescue them! We’re just getting to know Autumn and Pumpkin Spice, and they’ll have had a check up at our vets soon. If everything is okay, Autumn and…   read more >>

Giuseppe

Giuseppe @ HAC

Giuseppe was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control by a family member when his owner was admitted to hospital. Giuseppe is such a sweet cat! So lovely and affectionate. As you can see, Giuseppe has a hematoma in one of his ears. During his stay with them, HAC staff sent Giuseppe to the vet to have the hematoma drained three times. Each time, the ear filled back up again soon after. This type of hematoma can be very uncomfortable, but throughout all this, sweet Giuseppe continued to be in good spirits, despite how he must have been feeling. We rescued Giuseppe…   read more >>
