Fozzie

Fozzie @ HAC

Fozzie was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. This poor senior boy has clearly been neglected. He’s missing most of his fur, he’s very itchy, he desperately needs dental surgery, and he has some mobility issues. He’s a friendly guy though, despite how yucky he must be feeling… Fozzie is currently settling in at his foster home and he has dental surgery scheduled for next week. If all goes well with the surgery and his recovery, Fozzie should be available for adoption in a few weeks. Welcome to Ladybird Fozzie! We’re happy you’re here!

Portia

Portia

Portia was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. A couple of days later, a male rat who looked identical to Portia was brought into HAC as a stray from the same area. Portia turned out to be pregnant, so we’re assuming she and this other rat (Pontiac) were together before they ended up at the shelter separately. While at the shelter, Portia gave birth to 8 babies. On August 24th, she delivered four girls and four boys and they’re super cute! Portia has an open wound on her side. We’re not sure how it happened, but our vet…   read more >>

Pontiac

Pontiac

Pontiac was brought into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. A couple of days before, a female rat who looked identical to Pontiac had been brought into HAC as a stray from the same area. This rat (Portia) turned out to be pregnant, so we’re assuming she and Pontiac were together before they ended up at the shelter separately. Pontiac has an open wound on his abdomen area. We’re not sure how it happened, but we took him to the vet where he will have surgery to fix it up. While he’s under, he’ll also be neutered so he can…   read more >>

Freddie

Freddie @ foster

Freddie ended up at Toronto Animal Services as a stray. During his time at TAS, he became territorial in his cage and started to get bitey when staff cleaned his cage or when members of the public stuck their fingers through the bars. He was lovely when he was outside the cage, but unfortunately TAS were only able to house him in a cage at their shelter, and he was becoming more and more aggressive the longer he stayed. TAS reached out to Ladybird in hopes that we could help, and we happened to have a bunny foster home available!…   read more >>

Pistachio

Pistachio - photo by Willow Bean Photography

Almond and Pistachio were surrendered to a high-volume shelter in Quebec when their owner didn’t have time for them any longer. Thank you to the Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transport volunteers for getting Almond and Pistachio safely to us all the way from Quebec! Almond and Pistachio are shy, but sweet rats and they are very bonded to each other, so they must be adopted as a pair. For those wondering, Almond isn’t bald because of any health issue or disease. He’s just a particular breed of rat that is hairless. Anyone wanna knit him some little sweaters? 😉 We’ll…   read more >>

Jersey

Jersey @ foster

We rescued Jersey from Hamilton Animal Control. Jersey came into HAC as a stray, and he was never claimed by his owners. What an absolute doll Jersey is! Such a friendly guy. As you can see from his photos and video, Jersey could use to lose a few pounds. He’s a very hefty boy! After his rescue, Jersey had a vet appointment where he had a physical, blood work. Blood results were normal and his physical was great, other than the obvious… So, we’ve got Jersey started on a proper diet to get him fit! Big thanks to The Cat…   read more >>

Alabama

Alabama

We rescued Clarence and Alabama from Oakville Humane Society. Clarence was 3 weeks old and had a severe bite wound when he came into Oakville Humane Society, and Alabama was a skinny orphaned kitten who came into the shelter alone. Shelter staff decided to put them together, because a single kitten is a lonely kitten! They became the best of friends in their foster home. Clarence’s bite wound healed with treatment. Later xrays showed that Clarence is missing the head of his femur on his left leg, but the vet didn’t think he would need any surgery or treatment because…   read more >>

Tabitha

Tabitha @ HAC

Tabitha was brought to Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She has been declawed, so if she was truly a stray, whoever owned her didn’t come to the shelter looking for her. Tabitha had been at the shelter for a month before we were finally able to rescue her. During the month she was with us, Tabitha had issues with mobility and with her bowels. Along with this, she had not been eating well, despite different medications and special foods to help stimulate her appetite. We knew from x-rays that Tabitha had severe arthritis in her back and knees. Surgery…   read more >>

Sydney

Sydney @ foster

* Sydney found her forever home with a lovely person! *   Sydney came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Because she was so rail thin, we had her tested for FIV and FeLV and both were negative. Yay! Our vets are not sure why Sydney was so skinny, but her foster home did a great job of getting some much needed weight onto her. We had Sydney spayed, and she healed very well in her foster home. Now she’s ready to find her forever home! Here’s a report from Sydney’s foster home: “Sydney is a beautiful green eyed…   read more >>

Sydney Wood Foundation donation

Sydney Wood Foundation donation

Earlier this week we received a generous donation from the most beautiful family foundation. Sydney Wood Purple Butterfly of Hope Foundation was created by the Wood family after the very sudden loss of their daughter, Sydney (11), in 2012. The foundation raises funds through community events and then donates to various community causes that Sydney likely would have backed. We’re honoured to have the support of this selfless foundation to honour the memory of a truly incredible person. We’d like to extend love and thanks to Sue, Greg, Mallory and Kamryn for your generosity and kindness. We’re certain that Sydney is so…   read more >>

Kittens!

Kittens @ HAC

WelcomeSir Purrsalot, Lady Purrington, Baron Von Purrpurr, Baroness Von Loudpurr, Duke of Purr, and Mister Purrison! This adorable litter of kittens were found as strays and brought into Hamilton Animal Control. There are four boys and two girls and they’re about six weeks old. We weren’t planning on rescuing these guys, but when we were at the shelter to rescue Eloise, we took one look at them and knew we couldn’t leave without these little darlings! They had a check-up at the vet, and they’re relatively healthy, other than having poopy bums and feet from a few *accidents* in the…   read more >>

Eloise

Eloise - photo by Willow Bean Photography

Meet Eloise! Back in May, Eloise came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. About a month into her stay at HAC, Eloise had to be rushed to the vet as she was suffering from what was thought to be pyometra (an infection of the uterus), but it turned out, Eloise was pregnant and was having trouble giving birth. While at the vet, clinic staff helped her deliver one kitten who had gotten stuck feet first in the birth canal. Unfortunately, the kitten was underdeveloped, and didn’t survive. This was the only kitten Eloise was pregnant with. Eloise was put on…   read more >>

Willow

Willow

Waffles, Willow and 8 other rabbits were surrendered to Toronto Animal Services by their owner.  TAS reached out to a number of rescue organizations for help, and when a foster home opened up, we were happy to take in this sweet pair. Waffles and Willow have been fixed (thank you TAS!) and they’re now ready to find their forever home! They were initially quite shy, and did not enjoy too much attention from humans, but now they’re warming up and are happy for pets! They’re still not fans of being picked up (like most rabbits) but their foster mom is…   read more >>
