Rest in Peace Veronica

Veronica at HAC

Poor sweet Veronica.

Off and on for months now, Veronica had been vomiting. A lot. She had several vet visits because of it. We did blood tests, different medications, different foods. She would seem better for a while, then be back to excessive barfing. A few weeks ago, she stopped using her litter box and we knew there must be something really wrong. She had been boarding at the vet since then so they could try to nail down exactly what was going on. An xray showed nothing unusual, and she seemed perfectly fine at the vet clinic! Eating and drinking normally, using the box consistently. Being a happy and friendly girl. Then, she vomited again. There was so much, it was all over her cage.

Our vets suggested an ultrasound. We agreed. We needed to find out exactly what was going on with her poor tummy. The ultrasound showed unusual shadows, but the vets still weren’t able to determine the problem. They suggested exploratory surgery. It was the only way to know for sure why Veronica was so ill. We agreed, and this morning they opened her up. Poor Veronica had very large tumours all through her stomach, pancreas and into her intestines. She was riddled with what was likely cancer. The tumours were so large, removing them would be impossible. Our vets got in touch, and after much discussion, it was decided that what was best for Veronica would be that she not wake up from the surgery. There was no fixing what was a very far gone problem, and we didn’t want her to continue to suffer. The staff at the clinic gave Veronica lots of love before they let her go.

Ladybird want to thank Veronica’s foster home for taking care of Veronica through this whole ordeal. We are so thankful she had people to love her and be there for her to the end. We’d also like to thank all the vets who have treated Veronica since her rescue back in January. And thank you to those who donated to Veronica’s care.

With every animal we rescue, we hope for the happy ending of a forever home, but sometimes it’s just not meant to be. We’re thankful we could rescue Veronica from the shelter and let her know love and warmth for a few months before having to say goodbye.

We’ll miss you Veronica.
