Status: Adoptable
Age: Young adult
Arrival Date: April 27th, 2013
Species: Rabbit
Gender: Neutered male
Likes: Hopping, exploring, pats, other animals, veggies and fruit
Dislikes: None as of yet
Notes: Rescued from Mississauga Animal Services and currently in foster care, Oreo was found as a stray. Like many shelters at this time of year, Mississauga Animal Services were overloaded with rabbits after Easter, and reached out to Ladybird to take in a bunny before they had to start euthanizing some of them. We were happy to oblige!
Oreo is a petite and sweet bunny and he is easily handled. Oreo gets along with the other animals in his foster home, including another rabbit. He loves a variety of fruits and veggies. Oreo really enjoys his “floor time” where he has a supervised run of his foster home. (with safety precautions in place…such as electrical chords out of reach). He likes the security of his pen when his foster family isn’t home.

We ask that our rabbits aren’t housed in the usual pet store bought cages, as they are far too small for bunnies. Oreo is currently being housed in an xpen which gives him lots of space to hop around, stretch out and stand up to look around.
Here are some great examples of rabbit housing using x pens and similar large, open enclosures.

Status: Adoptable
Age: Approximately seven years old
Arrival Date: March 20, 2013
Species: Cat
Gender: Spayed female
Likes: Playing, snuggling, toys, sleeping, food
Dislikes: None as of yet.
Notes: June ended up at Hamilton Animal Control after her owner passed away. Ladybird rescued her from there and took her to the vet. We didn’t have any information about her and because she was a bit chubby, we assumed she was spayed. We were wrong! While the vet was spaying her, it was discovered that she had mammary tumors and many ovarian cysts. Poor old girl had been suffering! When the biopsy results came back, it turned out the mammary tumors were cancerous. The lab report stated that the vet had likely removed all the cancer when he removed the tumors. We’re hopeful that this is the case and we’re so happy we were able to get her the vet care she so desperately needed. June has extra toes (technically called polydactyl) and they make her even cuter than she already is!

Here’s a note from her foster mom when June first arrived:
“She is such a sweet little cat, totally chill, loving and purrs like no cat I’ve ever seen. June isn’t much of a lap cat but adores snuggling up against me and getting scratches when I’m sitting on the couch. She also enjoys getting a good brushing. In the morning she lets me sleep in, but when I wake, she will nuzzle into my arm, or neck, and purr her little face off for as long as I stay in bed. I think it is safe to say she is settled in and feels comfortable with me and friends that have come over. She is still not a fan of loud noises though… I vacuumed today and she hid for 15mins after I got done.”

And a more recent report from June’s foster mom:
“She’s the sweetest, most gentle, good-natured and amusing little thing I can hardly stand it! She’s come out of her shell for the most part for sure and when I had people over last she sat on the bed, didn’t come for pets but didn’t run when people went to see her, and watched us for the entire night and didn’t run and hide at all. She still isn’t fond of the vacuum and she freaked a little when I opened the window for the first time.”

Poor June has been through so much with her owner dying, being at animal control, surgery and then new surroundings in her foster home. We need to find June a lovely forever home where she can live out her days in comfort and quiet.

Gender: Spayed Female
Likes: Snuggling, pats, love, food, more love, head bonks
Dislikes: None as of yet.
Notes: Rescued from Hamilton Animal Control and currently in a foster home, Peaches is a very special cat! Here’s what her foster home has to say about her: “She is ridiculously snuggly. She crawls all over me, bonking her head on me and getting her head and ears pet just the way she wants for hours. She curls up on me with her head tucked under my chin and sleeps next to me all night. She’s a nonstop kneader and has a soft little purr and voice. She loves kisses and even lets me rub her tummy. Peaches is going to adore whoever she ends up with.”

Thanks to your generous donations and to several people who offered to open their homes to foster, we were able to rescue Webber yesterday! It took us some time to find a foster home that suited his special needs, but we were successful and so grateful.
Webber had a quick vet appointment and was then delivered to his foster home yesterday afternoon. He’s already made himself right at home and has started his weight loss journey.

Donate to Ladybird Animal Sanctuary today to help us continue to be able to rescue animals like Webber. We can’t do this without you!

Sweet Pea is a very bright, energetic, playful and affectionate kitty and we have really enjoyed having her visit. She has enjoyed having free range of the house during the day and likes spending some of her time wandering around to various windows and rooms on her own as well as joining in with the human and animal crowds whenever we all come together. She has quickly learned the right and wrong ways to fit into a multi-animal household and I would have no concerns about her placement in a home with other pets. She has developed a friendship with our dominant male cat and loves to follow him around the house and with our dog (particularly his tufty ears and fluffy wagging tail). She still has the occasional disagreement with our 2 females but they are mainly sound and fury, usually started by our adults and no blood has been drawn.

At night she sleeps in her own room by herself. She will sleep the night through on her own quietly and wait until the family wakes up and lets her out. She is also no longer as worried when her people come and go and she happily runs to greet you when you return.

She continues to be very playful and when the right toy is available will play fetch. She loves pens, pencils, chapsticks and is very good at ferreting out where you have stashed them so that they do not all disappear. We try to give her her own playtime each day but she also sometimes joins in on a group laser toy play session. Sweet Pea will play happily with just about any type of toy independently and interactively with her humans.

She is now much more comfortable with large images on a TV screen and loud noises and will not startle and hide anymore. All in all she will make a wonderful playful, affectionate companion for a very lucky family when they finally come forward and we will miss her very much.

Status: Adoptable
Age: Approximately 8 months
Arrival Date: September 18th, 2012
Species: Cat
Gender: Spayed Female
Likes: Playing, playing, playing, toys, more toys, food, laser pointer, playing fetch!
Dislikes: Loud noises and new situations frighten her
Notes: Rescued from Hamilton Animal Control and currently in a foster home in Guelph, Sweet Pea certainly lives up to her name. She’s cuddly and snuggly and loves attention! Sweet Pea shared her foster home with Saffron until Saffron was adopted. It took a while for Sweet Pea to warm up to her new “foster sister” but they eventually became friends and played together. Sweet Pea is quite a character, she loves to have pats and sit on your lap purring but prefers not to be picked up. She is very small for her age. Her foster home thinks she would do best with a family that can spend a lot of time with her as she doesn’t like to be separated from people for very long. She is also strangely fearful of TVs! Sweet Pea loves to play with almost any toy. She loves chasing the laser pointer and she plays fetch! She is great getting into her carry case and is now used to traveling. Sweet Pea has been spayed and microchipped and is ready to find her forever home!

We need your help! This is Webber, and he was left at Hamilton Animal Control after his owner was hospitalized. Webber is a little overweight…well, a lot overweight. But he’s such a sweetie! We desperately want to get Webber out of Animal Control, but we need a foster or adoptive home for him to go to! Webber would do best in a home where there aren’t too many stairs as his weight causes him some trouble in that department. He’d need someone who is willing to keep him on a strict diet and exercise routine. But mostly, Webber needs someone to show him the love he is not getting while sitting alone in a cage at Animal Control right now!

When you foster for Ladybird, we pay for all food, supplies and vet care. You just provide the space, time and love your foster animal needs!

If you think you could be Webber’s foster home, please fill out our application here.

Please share Webber’s photo and help us save his life!

On March 22nd I opened my home (and of course heart) to two sweet dogs, Lucas and Lani. If it weren’t for Ladybird rescuing these two affectionate dogs, they would have been separated and sent to live in different homes. It became very evident right away that separating Lucas and Lani was simply not an option.

Lucas and Lani’s adorable personalities quickly began to shine, and every minute I was with them was brighter and happier.

Ladybird is a truly amazing organization, run by people with huge hearts….they realized the importance of keeping Lucas and Lani together immediately. When the dogs got to meet their new family, so did I. I saw the instant connection that their new mom had to them, and them to her. They could not have found a more perfect forever home!

Thank you Ladybird! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to provide the safe, happy, attention-filled haven that Lucas and Lani truly deserved while waiting to find their new family.

Ladybirds, you are wonderful people!

I cannot wait for the next dog needing the same love and attention that Lani and Lucas did to be found so that I can experience ‘motherhood’ again!
