Kevin

Kevin @ HAS

Someone tied Kevin to a dumpster and abandoned him there. Thankfully, a kind citizen called Hamilton Animal Services, and they came to pick Kevin up. Kevin’s stray time at the shelter came and went, but no owner came forward to claim him. We’ll never know the real reason this sweet boy ended up in this situation, but what we do know, is that Kevin is an absolute doll. Despite being visually impaired, Kevin would greet everyone he met at the shelter with a smile and a wiggly bum. All the staff at the shelter fell in love with him. So…   read more >>

Sheamus

Sheamus

Sheamus came to Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. No owner came forward to claim him, so Ladybird was happy to spring this sweet boy from the shelter when a loving foster home opened up. While in shelter, staff noticed that one of his front feet was a bit wonky. The had an x-ray done, which appeared to show nothing conclusive. On Sheamus’ rescue day we had the vet do another x-ray on his ankle to find out what was ‘afoot’ with his foot. Luckily it showed no fracture and they believe he may have had a puncture wound at…   read more >>

Want to own a rabbit? It’s not a relationship you can just jump into

Photo by Laura Shantora Nelles: Toronto Sun

Bunnies require years-long commitment, but are excellent pets to right home Toronto Sun By: Laura Shantora Nelles Hippity hoppity, Easter’s on its way. There are plenty of ways to celebrate the upcoming vernal equinox and delight in the first signs of spring and while a chocolate rabbit may make its way into your basket this year, a pet rabbit makes a terrible Easter gift. In the weeks and months following Easter every year, unwanted rabbits are discarded at shelters, rescues or worse — outside. While these adorable animals make poor gifts, they are excellent pets for the right home, but…   read more >>

Steven

Steven

Steven ended up a shelter in Quebec but we were not told the reason why he was there. The shelter was packed full, and we were happy to take Steven in when asked. Steven made his way to Ontario by way of One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers, and we’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country. Steven is a very friendly and active rat so far. He gets very excited about food, and is enjoying all the snacks his foster home has been offering. Steven had…   read more >>

Louie

Louie

Louie was brought to Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He spent an extended time at the shelter, but no owner came forward to claim him. Poor Louie’s teeth are really bad. His mouth must be hurting him quite a lot. He came into the shelter with a scrape on his nose, but it’s not known what caused it. Louie was extremely depressed at the shelter. He didn’t want to leave the bed in his kennel, and was reluctant to interact with the staff. When he did, all he wanted was to be in their laps. He is very sweet,…   read more >>

Seraphina

* Seraphina has been adopted to a wonderful person! Woot! * Seraphina’s owner surrendered her to a Quebec shelter because their hamster had an accidental litter, and because Seraphina has malocclusion, meaning her teeth are not exactly aligned properly. The shelter reached out for help via One Last Chance rescue placement, and we were more than happy to take this little girl in. Big thank you to Freedom Drivers volunteers for getting Seraphina to us safely all the way from Quebec on Christmas Eve. In her foster home, Seraphina is housed in a 75 gallon tank with lots of different…   read more >>

* Brillo found his forever home with lovely people! Woot! * * December 21st, 2023 * Shortly after her arrival, Gwen gave birth. We had no idea she was pregnant, but she had four babies during the night. Quite a surprise for her foster mom to wake up to. Unfortunately, one baby didn’t make it, but the other three are doing well so far. Gwen is a VERY protective mom, and she’s telling off everyone who comes near her babies. Brody

Brody

After being hit by a car, Brody was picked up by Hamilton Animal Services. They took Brody to the vet where he stayed for his stray time. No owner came forward to claim him, so shelter staff reached out to us for help. We were happy to take this poor boy in, and he was transferred to one of our affiliate vet clinics on his rescue day. X-rays revealed a slight fracture in Brody’s jaw, but it is in a spot that will likely heal without surgery. Brody is eating on his own (a great sign) and is on pain…   read more >>

Darla

Darla

Darla came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She had a microchip, but when shelter staff traced the chip and called the number, the person stated that they lost Darla thirteen years ago and they assumed coyotes had gotten her. Darla’s original owner was not interested in taking her back. We’ll never know where Darla has been for those thirteen years, but if someone else had been taking care of her, that person didn’t come forward to claim her. Darla is the sweetest girl. Very friendly and loving. We got her out of the shelter and into the vet…   read more >>

Seymour

Seymour

Seymour found himself at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He was in rough shape when he arrived at the shelter. He was covered in fleas, had wounds all over his body, and his fur was patchy and sparse. We don’t know what poor Seymour has been through, but it seems life has not been kind to him so far. Nobody came forward to claim Seymour, and when a foster home opened up, we were happy to get this handsome boy out of the shelter. He was neutered and had a dental cleaning on his rescue day, and he did…   read more >>

Marceline

* Marceline has been adopted by wonderful people, and she’ll have other cats to be friends with. Yay! * Marceline ended up at Burlington Animal Services with her siblings as a stray litter. All of her siblings were adopted, but the shelter noted that Marceline had a minor issue with her bum. It was very red and swollen. Because municipal shelters are limited in how much vet care they can provide, the shelter reached out to us for help. We were happy to get Marceline out of the shelter, and she went straight to the vet to get checked out….   read more >>

Raspberry

Raspberry

Raspberry’s owners went to Hamilton Animal Services to surrender their “hamster” because they no longer wanted her. Paperwork was filled out, and when shelter staff opened the box Raspberry arrived in, they were certainly taken aback to find not a hamster, but a guinea pig inside. A very frightened guinea pig with extremely overgrown nails. With a world of information at our fingertips, it’s tough to imagine that a person wouldn’t realize that they had a pet guinea pig – not a hamster. We can only hope that Raspberry wasn’t fed hamster food her whole life, seeing as guinea pigs…   read more >>
