Peach

Peach

* Peach found her forever home with lovely people! Yippee! * Peach came into Hamilton Animal Services as a “stray.” She spent a couple of weeks at the shelter and was not claimed by her owner. It’s more likely she was abandoned by her owner rather than being a true stray, so it was not shocking that nobody came forward for her. Either way, we were happy to get Peach out of the shelter and into a foster home. She now has a very large enclosure to explore, and she’s loving all the space. Peach had a vet visit, and…   read more >>

Muenster

Muenster

* Monterey Jack and Muenster found their forever home together with wonderful people! Yay! * Hamilton Animal Services contacted us when four rats came into the shelter who needed immediate rescue. The rats had been dumped outdoors, and they had likely been alone out there for some time. Thankfully the kind property owner who noticed them was aware that they were domestic rats, and began live trapping them to bring to HAS. All four rats had cuterebras (bot fly larvae) embedded in their skin. (See this page for (graphic) photos and a description of cuterebras.) The females had them embedded…   read more >>

Harmony

Harmony

* Melody and Harmony found their forever home together with a lovely family! Woo hoo! * We rescued Treble, Alto, Melody and Harmony from a Quebec shelter where they arrived as “strays.” Along with these four, there were quite a number of other rats in the group. Seems like another case of an owner dumping their pets, which is happening far too frequently as of late. Shelter staff weren’t able to determine family units because of the numbers, so the rats were just placed in cages as they were caught, and they did their best to separate males from females….   read more >>

Mash

Mash

* Ducky and Mash have have been adopted by wonderful people! Yay! * Ducky and Mash were rescued by Ladybird from a shelter in Quebec. Their owner surrendered Ducky and Mash to the shelter because their children weren’t looking after them. Ducky and Mash are very sweet pigs! Mash has some fur loss that our vet checked out, and that the foster family have been monitoring since their arrival. The fur issue seems to be a type of guinea pig alopecia. Mash is not itchy and he doesn’t scratch at herself. She is mite and parasite free. And the bare spots…   read more >>

Rossa

Rossa

* In September 2022, we had to say goodbye to our sweet Rossa. Her many health conditions caught up with her and it she told us it was her time to go. Though she was a challenge to care for because of her health issues, Rossa’s foster family loved her deeply and they’re very sad about her passing. Our hearts go out to them, and to Rossa’s “brother” Bobby, who will definitely be missing her. Rest in peace, sweet Rossa. We’ll never forget your sweet face. *   Rossa and Bobby were rescued from Hamilton Animal Services after they were found…   read more >>

* Mashiro found her forever home with a lovely person! Congrats Mashiro! * Mashiro was brought into a Quebec shelter as a “stray.” She made her way to Ladybird from Quebec with the help of the amazing folks at Freedom Drivers. Shortly after her arrival. Mashiro had a vet visit and was given a clean bill of health. Now Mashiro is ready to find her forever home! Here’s a note from her foster family: “Mashiro is a sweet and friendly hamster, she is very alert and will stand on her two back legs to check out what you’re doing and…   read more >>

Chopper

Chopper

* Chowder, Chunk, Chippy and Chopper found their forever home together with a wonderful family! Yay! * Chowder, Chunk, Chippy and Chopper were rescued from a Quebec shelter. Their owner surrendered them to the shelter, but we were not told the reason. These four boys are friendly, but they are all overweight. Especially Chunk. He’s one of the biggest rats we’ve met! The boys had a vet visit, and thankfully they’re relatively healthy other than the extra weight they need to shed. Chowder had a few lumps that our vet removed, and now that he is healed from his surgery,…   read more >>

Danish

Sadly, Danish passed away unexpectedly. We’re not sure what happened, but we are thankful he was in a loving foster home when he passed. Rest in peace Danish. We loved you!   Someone left a box full of gerbils in front of a pet store in Hamilton. Store staff found the box and called Hamilton Animal Services to pick them up. There were a number of gerbils in the box, including five newborn babies. HAS reached out to us for help, and we were able to take in four female gerbils and the five babies. Thankfully, all the gerbils seem…   read more >>

Jin

Jin

* Jin found his forever home with lovely people! Woo hoo! * Toronto Animal Services reached out to us for help with several hamsters that had been surrendered to them. There was one teddy bear hamster Einstein, and three dwarf hamsters, Suga, Jin and V. These poor hamsters were in rough shape. They had skin issues and mites that were both likely caused by poor husbandry. And they’re absolutely terrified of everything. It doesn’t seem they had much human interaction or proper care up until they were surrendered. We were happy to get these little ones out of the shelter…   read more >>

Elliot

Elliot

*Elliot has found a wonderful family. We’re so happy for you, Elliot!! Elliot was surrendered to a shelter in Quebec. We weren’t told the reason he was surrendered, but we’re glad he was. Elliot’s fur was urine stained, he was missing patches of fur, and his feet were red and inflamed. Poor guy clearly wasn’t very well looked after. The amazing volunteers at Freedom Drivers got Elliot to us safely from Quebec. Despite everything Elliot had been through, he’s the sweetest pig! He loves head scritches, and will even flop over for his foster familly for more pets. What a…   read more >>

Slim

* Slim found his forever home with lovely people, and other rats to be friends with! Yay! * We received this message from Kingston Humane Society: “44 rats were dumped in a recycling bin on a local trail in a small creek. Seven of them drowned, but we managed to catch and save the 37 remaining. Looking for help to place them.” How could we say no? Slim is one of the six rats we were able to take in from this group. We had Slim neutered and he was adopted to a home where they had other rats. A…   read more >>
