Fortune

* Fortune has been adopted by her foster home! Yay! * We rescued 20 dwarf hamsters from a Quebec shelter. They were surrendered to the shelter by their owner. They have a vet visit coming up to confirm their genders and make sure they’ll all healthy. If the males are good to go, they’ll be made available for adoption soon after their vet appointment. We’ll be keeping the females in foster care until their gestation period is done (20 – 22 days) to be sure none of them are pregnant. Welcome to Ladybird, wee hamsters! We’re so glad you’re here!… read more >>

Ratigan

* Jafar, Scar, and Ratigan found their forever home together with lovely people! Yay! * When Windsor Humane Society reached out asking if we could take some of the more than 80 rats that had been surrendered to them, we were happy to bring Gaston, Jafar, Scar, Stinky Pete, Ratigan and Clayton into the Ladybird family. We’d like to thank their volunteer transport for bringing these babies directly to Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for their first check up. The boys are a little shy, but not too scared to be handled. They were given a clean bill of health at… read more >>

Dolores

* Dolores found her forever home with a lovely family! Yay! * Windsor Humane Society reached out to us when they were overwhelmed with small animals. We were able to take in Dolores the hamster, Diesel the gerbil, and Badoo the guinea pig. Dolores is a friendly girl, though she’s not thrilled about being handled too much. She has made herself very comfy in her bin enclosure, and she can often be found snuggled into a pile of bedding, or running in her wheel. She is very much enjoying the fresh veggies being offered to her. Dolores was given a… read more >>
Jerry

* Jerry found his forever home with a wonderful person! Congrats Jerry! * Jerry came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. A kind person saw his severe injuries and brought him to safety at the shelter. It is not known how Jerry was injured. HAS transferred Jerry to their vet where he was given basic treatment and pain medication, then he was returned to the shelter to wait out his stray time. Lilly

* Lilly found her forever home with wonderful people! Woo hoo! * Lilly was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by relatives when her owner passed away. We were happy to get Lilly out of the shelter when a foster home became available. This sweet girl is a little pudgy, so she’s been started on a special diet to help her shed some pounds. She had blood work done at her vet visit, and everything was normal. Lilly had dental surgery (7 extractions) and she came through it with flying colours. Lilly is all healed from her surgery now, and ready… read more >>

We were happy to get these lovely ladies out of the shelter and into a loving foster home. Lucille and Bessie are both healthy, other than needing to lose a few pounds. At their vet visit, they had blood work done (they’re both FIV/FeLV negative), and a couple of weeks later they had dental cleanings. Bessie also had one broken tooth removed. They’ve recovered from their surgeries, and now they’re ready to find… read more >>

Ruby

Sometimes, love just isn’t enough. Sometimes, an animal has been abused and neglected for so long, no amount of veterinary care can help them. Sometimes, we have to say goodbye when we have only just said hello. Ruby was skin and bones when she was found as a “stray” and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Her entire body was infested with mites. Her ears were full of ear mites and infection. Her underside was severely urine scalded, and she had several other wounds. This didn’t happen to Ruby overnight. Someone had allowed her condition to get this bad before they… read more >>

Kiwi

* Kiwi found his forever home with a lovely person! Congrats Kiwi! * Kiwi was surrendered to Toronto Animal Services by his owner. Poor Kiwi was in rough shape. His beak was deformed. He is missing parts of his toes and there were wounds on his feet. He had a pretty bad mite infestation when he arrived, so the shelter started him on treatment. Kiwi wasn’t doing well in the shelter, so TAS reached out to us for help. We couldn’t say no to this poor guy. We sent Kiwi straight from the shelter to the avian specialist vet at… read more >>

Abe

* Abe found his forever home with lovely people! Yay! * Abe was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. When he arrived at HAS, Abe was extremely dehydrated and infested with fleas. He was very itchy, had patchy fur, and an issue with his eye. We know Abe belonged to someone at some point because he is already neutered. No owner came forward to claim him, despite being at the shelter long past his stray time. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Abe out of the shelter and into a foster… read more >>

We were able to take in Diesel the gerbil, Dolores the hamster and Badoo the guinea pig. Diesel is a happy and active little guy. He loves to burrow and dig, and it’s so fun to watch him create elaborate tunnels through his bedding. Hamilton charity offering sanctuary to difficult to care for shelter animals

The Silhouette, McMaster University By: Pallavi Mukherjee, Contributor For over a decade, Ladybird Animal Sanctuary has rescued abandoned, neglected and abused animals, while hoping to establish their own farmhouse one day Melissa McClelland, Janine Stoll and Lisa Winn have been close friends for years. They met through their music and started their own music group, the Ladybird Sideshow in 2001. One evening some 11 years ago, the conversation steered towards animals. It was then they realized how many of them are abandoned or given up to shelter homes, and if these homes could no longer hold onto them, the animals… read more >>
