Daphne

* Daphne and Hershey have been adopted by a wonderful family! Woo hoo! * Daphne came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. It’s more likely that she was an unwanted Easter gift who was dumped by her owner. Daphne is one of the lucky ones who survived being abandoned. Aside from all the other dangers faced by dumped domestic rabbits, white colouring makes a bunny a much more visible target to predators. We’re glad Daphne made it through her ordeal and was brought to the safety of the shelter. Once a foster home opened up, we were happy to… read more >>
Hershey

* Daphne and Hershey have been adopted by a wonderful family! Woo hoo! * Hershey and several other rabbits were dumped outdoors in a rural area of Hamilton. For many reasons, domestic rabbits generally do not survive on their own in the wild, so the person who abandoned them in this way basically set them up for death. Thankfully, kind people were able to round up the rabbits and bring to Hamilton Animal Services. Because the bunnies were males and females, they were separated at the shelter. When he arrived, Hershey was in rough shape. His back end was so… read more >>
Suga

*Suga has been adopted by a loving family. Congratulations, Suga! We’re so happy for you. Toronto Animal Services reached out to us for help with several hamsters that had been surrendered to them. There was one teddy bear hamster Einstein, and three dwarf hamsters, Suga, Jin and V. These poor hamsters were in rough shape. They had skin issues and mites that were both likely caused by poor husbandry. And they’re absolutely terrified of everything. It doesn’t seem they had much human interaction or proper care up until they were surrendered. We were happy to get these little ones out… read more >>

Misty

*We’re thrilled to announce that Misty has found her forever home with a lovely family and sweet dog brother named Harley. Congratulations, Misty! We’re so happy for you. Misty came to Ladybird from Hamilton Animal Services where she ended up as a stray. No one came to claim Misty, and even though she had a microchip, shelter staff received no communication from her owner, despite trying to reach out several times. This poor girl had tons of bald patches, scabby skin, and had a pretty terrible flea infestation. Luckily, HAS started her on a flea treatment and her fur is… read more >>
Fuzzy Peaches

* Fuzzy Peaches, Starburst, and Chiclet found their forever home together with a wonderful person! Yippee! * Hamilton Animal Services contacted us when four rats came into the shelter who needed immediate rescue. The rats had been dumped outdoors, and they had likely been alone out there for some time. Thankfully the kind property owner who noticed them was aware that they were domestic rats, and began live trapping them to bring to HAS. All four rats had cuterebras (bot fly larvae) embedded in their skin. (See this page for (graphic) photos and a description of cuterebras.) The females had… read more >>

Aspen

* Aspen found his forever home with amazing people! Congrats Aspen! * Aspen came to Ladybird from Hamilton Animal Services after his owner surrendered him to the shelter. This poor, sweet guy was covered in wounds and he was infested with mites. Aspen’s owner told HAS staff that their other rabbit had caused Aspen’s injuries. We transferred Aspen to Spencer Creek Animal Hospital where he was seen by Dr. Stubbs, who specializes in rabbits and other small animals. Aspen’s wounds were cleaned and the next morning he was neutered. Dr. Stubbs noted that the wounds were at least a week… read more >>
Wasabi

* Wasabi found his forever home with lovely people and other cats to play with. Yay! * Wasabi was brought into Hamilton Animal Services after being found as a stray. As well as suffering from a respiratory issue, Wasabi infested with fleas and had a large open wound on his neck that had likely been caused by a cuterebra (bot fly larvae). This poor guy was having a rough go! Shelter staff administered flea treatment, and they cleaned up the wound. Wasabi’s stray time at the shelter came and went, but no owner came forward to claim him. We were… read more >>
Bo

* Bo has been adopted by amazing people! Yippee! * Bo was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by his owner when they could no longer look after him. Despite being very frightened at the shelter, Bo still had a wagging tail for everyone he met. We were happy to get Bo out of the noise and bustle of the shelter, and into a loving foster home. We had Bo neutered and now that he’s healed, he’s ready to find his forever home! A home without small children would be ideal for Bo. Here’s a note from Bo’s foster mom: “Bo… read more >>
Alto

* Alto and Treble found their forever home together with a lovely person! Woo hoo! * We rescued Treble, Alto, Melody and Harmony from a Quebec shelter where they arrived as “strays.” Along with these four, there were quite a number of other rats in the group. Seems like another case of an owner dumping their pets, which is happening far too frequently as of late. Shelter staff weren’t able to determine family units because of the numbers, so the rats were just placed in cages as they were caught, and they did their best to separate males from females…. read more >>

Didi

November 30, 2022 We had to say goodbye to sweet Didi. Since the last update, Didi’s health went downhill. The ultrasound performed the week before showed a mass on her kidney, and the biopsy of the facial scabs had come back as cancerous. Though these two things would have been an issue, we still don’t know exactly what was causing the infection in Didi’s system that was making her so ill. She spent three days at the vet clinic, and though she received every available treatment possible, she just couldn’t fight all the issues that were plaguing her. At the… read more >>

Shirley

* Beverly and Shirley found their forever home together with lovely people! Yay! * We rescued Beverly, Shirley, Addie and Kendra from Hamilton Animal Services. They, along with several male rats, had been dumped behind a building on the rail trail in Hamilton. Thankfully someone spotted them and brought them to safety at HAS. The boys were separated from the girls when they arrived. These poor rats were extremely thin, they had respiratory infections, mites, and they were covered in bite marks and scabs. Some of the rats were beyond the point of medical help, and they sadly didn’t make… read more >>
