Joe

Joe

Joe, Louis and Tina ended up at Hamilton Animal Control after their owner passed away.  When they arrived at HAC, they were quite matted, so staff shaved the mats out as best they could. Seemed that none of the cats had been brushed for some time, and poor Joe is so fat that he can’t reach his back to groom himself, so he had the worst matting of the three. Joe mostly just needed to lose some weight. He seems in fair health otherwise. We had his blood tested as well, just to be on the safe side because he is so…   read more >>

Louis

We said a very sad goodbye to Louis after a short but devastating illness while he was in his foster home. Our vets did everything they could to help Louis but the illness had taken over his body so quickly, humanely letting him go was the best option for his well being and to end his suffering. We want to send a big hug to Louis’s foster home for looking after him so well and for being there for him right until the end. Rest in peace Louis.

Baguette

Baguette

Atticus and Baguette were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control when their owner was no longer able to care for them.  They’re sweet and quiet birds. We’re not sure why, but Atticus was missing his tail feathers when we rescued him. They grew back within a few weeks though, and he looks as handsome as ever! Atticus and Baguette were adopted by their foster home! Yay!   Atticus and Baguette’s names were provided by students who participated in the Westmount People for Animal Welfare fundraiser.

Oliver

Oliver @ foster. Photo by lumaRae Photography

We rescued Oliver from Hamilton Animal Control. Oliver’s owners surrendered him to HAC because they were moving. Oliver had never seen a vet in the 9 years he was with his previous owners, so his first stop after his rescue was to the vet to be neutered! Oliver is a laid back guy. He’s been very sweet and calm through his transition from the shelter to the vet and to his foster home. And let’s talk about how handsome he is! What a looker! Here’s a note from Oliver’s foster mom: “Oliver is a big, friendly guy. He loves human…   read more >>

Fanta

Fanta @ foster

Fanta ended up at Hamilton Animal Control by no fault of his own. His owners only had him for two weeks before they surrendered him to HAC. He was being bullied by another cat in the home and couldn’t get to the litter box without being attacked. He stopped using the litter for this reason, so his owners brought him to HAC instead of trying to work on the issue between the cats and offering them a second box. Fanta used the litter perfectly while at the shelter. He did have an eye condition called entropian, but HAC had the…   read more >>

Napoleon

Napoleon @ foster

Napoleon was brought to Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. He was a little sickly, but still active, eating and happy. We rescued Napoleon from HAC and took him to the vet for a check up. He was prescribed medication for diarrhea, but he is healthy otherwise. Napoleon spent a couple of weeks in his foster home and he’s feeling much better. He’s now ready to find his forever home! Here’s a note from Napoleon’s foster home: “Holy cow is this guy cute! He is friendly and snuggly and playful and all the good stuff!” Napoleon found his forever home…   read more >>

Thank you Westmount People for Animal Welfare!

Thank you Westmount PAW!

We love Westmount PAW! People for Animal Welfare (PAW) is a student-led group at Westmount Secondary School. The group was founded at the beginning of the 2015 school year by Abby Hill. Hassan Elaghoury and Mitchell Kennedy have been crucial members since the group’s beginning. At the beginning of second semester, PAW implemented an animal sponsorship program at Westmount Secondary School. Participating fifth period classes were assigned to an animal in foster care with Ladybird Animal Sanctuary. These classes were responsible for “sponsoring” their animal, by way of bi-weekly donations. They were encouraged to follow their sponsor animal’s story on…   read more >>

Gord

Gord

*Gord found his forever home with lovely people!* We rescued Gord from Hamilton Animal Control. Gordie and his sibling were abandoned in a box in a park in Hamilton. When Animal Control officers arrived to pick them up, they discovered that both rabbits were emaciated, dehydrated and very ill. Sadly, Gord’s sibling was already too far gone and had to be humanely euthanized to end his suffering. Thankfully the staff at HAC were able to give Gord some sub-Q fluids and a heating pad to get him feeling a bit better after his arrival. For the first couple of days,…   read more >>

Hope

Hope @ foster

We rescued Hope from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We took Hope to the vet for a check-up and it turns out she is already spayed! She certainly belonged to someone, but nobody came looking for her for the eight days she was at the shelter. Hope is a lovely kitty. She happily gives out as many head bonks as you’d like and she has a sweet purr. Here’s a report from Hope’s foster home: “Hope is the perfect cat! she doesn’t show any animosity towards other cats or our little dog. She is an…   read more >>

* Tiger and Harvey found their forever home with a lovely person! *   We rescued Tiger and Harvey from Hamilton Animal Control. Their owner surrendered them because of allergies. Tiger and Harvey are brothers and they’re very bonded to each other. They are big boys and need to lose a bit of weight. They’re currently on a weight loss food from the vet, which they should stay on until they’ve shed a few pounds. Otherwise, they’re quite healthy for 9 year old cats. Here’s a note from their foster mom: “I call them the LUV brothers. Their absolute favorite thing…   read more >>

Trixie

Trixie @ foster

We rescued Trixie from Hamilton Animal Control where she ended up as a stray. Trixie had a cut near her eye that was pretty bad when she first arrived at HAC. Staff there gave her medication and it was looking much better by the time we picked her up. Trixie is so, so friendly! Never stops purring and seeking attention. Such a lovely little kitten! When Trixie was at the vet for her spay surgery, the vet couldn’t find a uterus! The vet removed what seemed to be her ovaries and they were sent to a lab to confirm that’s…   read more >>

We rescued pregnant Yuki (pronounced Yew-key) from Hamilton Animal Control. After being in her foster home for about a month, she went into what seemed to be labour, but her foster mom knew there was something wrong when there were no kittens, but a lot of blood. She rushed Yuki to the vet where an emergency C-section and spay were performed. Yuki had three babies, one of which had already passed away inside the womb. After some time at the vet, Yuki was transferred back to her foster home. Less than a week later, one of the kittens, Yoko, unfortunately…   read more >>

Andy

Andy - Photo by Sara Clausnitzer (www.saraclausnitzer.com)

We rescued Andy from Hamilton Animal Control. Andy was sweet, sweet, sweet as can be and was already neutered, so he certainly belonged to someone before he ended up at Animal Control as a stray. He was such an affectionate dog, we were shocked that nobody came looking for him. While at HAC, it was noticed that Andy had a bit of a funny walk, and seemed to be a bit unsteady on his feet at times. He wasn’t in any pain and didn’t show any signs of discomfort at all, but shelter staff thought something seemed a bit off….   read more >>

Bear

Bear @ foster

We rescued Bear from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. Bear is a sweet old dude. He has a happy smile and lots of tail wags for everyone he meets. His fur was matted and his ears were quite dirty. His eyes are cloudy, but he can see just fine. We’re not sure if he can hear all that well, but that’s okay! He’s very spry for a senior dog. At his vet visit, it was discovered that Bear had a large hernia, so we got him surgery to repair it. While Bear was under anesthetic,…   read more >>

Sadly, one of the three recently rescued kittens passed away peacefully due to unknown reasons. We’re grateful to her foster home for showing her love and support during her brief time. Rest in peace, little Tequila.
