Domino

Ladybird rescued Gloria and her babies from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves as strays. The babies were about two weeks old when we rescued the family. With help from our vets and their foster mom, Gloria raised her babies and the family is now healthy and happy. Domino’s two sisters have been adopted, but she’s still waiting. Domino would love to have a kitty companion in her forever home. Domino found her forever home with a lovely family and her name is now Libby! In March of 2016, Libby’s forever home sent this update: “The ‘shoulder shot’ is Libby on… read more >>
Moondance

Ladybird rescued Gloria and her babies from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves as strays. The babies were about two weeks old when we rescued the family. Since shortly after her rescue, Gloria had been suffering with an upper respiratory virus that she contracted during her time at Hamilton Animal Control. She received treatment at the vet, and was starting to feel a bit better. Unfortunately, her kittens also caught the virus. At such a young age, this virus is hard to fight. It takes over the kitten’s whole body, rendering them unable to eat, and as it gets worse they… read more >>

Dolly

We rescued Dudley and Dolly from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves as strays. Dudley and Dolly were gaining weight and doing really well in their foster home, until Dudley suddenly became lethargic and was clearly not feeling well. His foster mom took him to the vet and they decided to keep him at the clinic since it wasn’t obvious right away what the issue was. After some tests, it was discovered that Dudley had a blood parasite (Haemobartonella). Unfortunately, despite the vet’s best efforts, Dudley didn’t make it through the night. Dolly remained healthy, but after her brother… read more >>

Bobby

* After being in foster care for almost a whole year, Bobby finally found his forever home! And he totally hit the jackpot! You can follow Bobby’s adventures in his forever home by following @liser_mac on Instagram! Hamilton Animal Control received a call from a member of the public about a rabbit abandoned in a box in a park. Animal Control picked the rabbit up and discovered he had a very large lump in his neck/shoulder area. It wasn’t easily detected, as it somewhat blended in to his dewlap (neck fat) when he sat a certain way. This abscess… read more >>
Farm Animal Care Conference at Farm Sanctuary!

Ladybird’s ultimate goal is to have a property where we can house more cats, dogs and small animals, and where we can welcome farm animals in need of rescue. Before attaining that goal, we are visiting other sanctuaries to gather as much knowledge as we can and to learn from others who are already doing what we are so looking forward to! In September of 2015, Ladybird founders Melissa, Janine and Lisa attended the Farm Sanctuary’s Farm Animal Care Conference at the Watkins Glen, New York location. We got “hands on” learning how to start and operate a sanctuary, effective fundraising,… read more >>
Thank you Hamilton Port Authority!

Ladybird would like to send a big thank you to the staff at Hamilton Port Authority for hosting us at their offices today for a little presentation about what we do. Such lovely people working there! And another massive thank you for the very generous donation the port staff presented to Ladybird for $5000 that they raised at a charity golf tournament! Amazing! Thank you so much Hamilton Port Authority staff! http://hamiltonport.ca/
Nugget

Ladybird rescued Nugget from Hamilton Animal Control when he was brought in without his mother or siblings. We already had three bottle-fed kittens in our care (Shasta, Siri and Ripley), so this little guy was added to that group. Nugget thrived in his foster home, and he’s now ready to find his forever home! Here’s a note from their foster home: “This is a very active bunch. Nugget and Siri are real cuddle bugs. Into EVERYTHING! LOL They all play hard then crash, all of which lasts for about 10 minutes then they are off again. Love chasing toys and each… read more >>
Mumford

Ladybird rescued Mumford from Hamilton Animal Control. Someone brought Mumford into HAC, but instead of talking to the staff about why they were bringing him in, they left him in the lobby and walked out. So…we don’t know anything about his history. Mumford had some issues with his eyes from the beginning, so HAC staff put him on medication. He would get better for some time, then get worse again. HAC staff did their best to keep his eye issues under control, but because he had been at the shelter for almost two months, wasn’t staying healthy, and would require… read more >>
Shasta

Ladybird rescued Shasta, Siri and Ripley from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves without their mother. Luckily, we had a “bottle-feeder” foster home on hand who was willing to take them in, and take on the huge task of caring for kittens of this age. Foster mom did a great job of raising these sweet kittens, and even added a fourth kitten (Nugget) of similar age who came into HAC by himself. Here’s a note from their foster home: “This is a very active bunch. Nugget and Siri are real cuddle bugs. Into EVERYTHING! LOL They all play hard… read more >>

Cocoa

We rescued Cocoa and her five kittens from Hamilton Animal Control where they found themselves as strays. Cocoa had just given birth to five kittens on someone’s porch a couple of days before they were brought in. A few days after Cocoa and her babies arrived at the shelter, a single stray kitten close in age was brought into HAC separately. The staff at HAC put this kitten in with Cocoa and babies to see if Cocoa would accept the new little one. She did, and the wayward kitten thrived with her new family. What a sweet mama Cocoa is!… read more >>
Katie

* Katie found her forever home with lovely people! You can follow Katie’s adventures in her forever home at the Facebook page of her brother Furiosa. Ladybird rescued Katie from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Katie was extremely thin when she arrived at HAC and staff were worried she might not make it. She started to eat (with help from staff) and re-gain some strength in the two weeks she spent at HAC before her rescue. She still had low body weight and now a protruding belly, but she seemed to be feeling a lot… read more >>
Posey

Ladybird rescued Posey from Hamilton Animal Control where she ended up after her owners signed her over. She’s a friendly and fairly calm little pig, and she’d love a forever home where she has another female, or neutered male guinea pig to be friends with. Posey’s bottom teeth were a bit long, so our vets gave them a quick trim. Guinea pigs need a constant source of timothy hay and chew toys to keep their teeth from growing too long. Guinea pig owners need to be diligent about checking their teeth often for issues. Overgrown teeth can prevent pigs from… read more >>
Mocha

Ladybird rescued Mocha the hedgehog from Oakville and Milton Humane Society where she ended up after her owners brought her in. OMHS was overflowing with small animals, so Ladybird was happy to help this wee prickly girl. Mocha found her forever home shortly after her rescue!
