Mango

Mango

* Mango found her forever home with wonderful people!* We rescued Mango from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. The staff there noticed that she was having trouble seeing, and they thought she might be completely blind. She seemed healthy and happy in every other way, so her vision issue was a mystery. We rescued Mango and took her to the vet to get checked out. The vet determined that she is not completely blind, (she doesn’t bump into things and she can follow a moving object…albeit slower than a normal cat would) and that her…   read more >>

Peaches

Peaches

Ladybird rescued Pepper and her kittens, Ninja, Peaches and Fudgee-O from Hamilton Animal Control. As you can see, Pepper had an issue with her eye and she had surgery to remove it. Pepper raised her babies really well with the help of her foster mom. Pepper and Fudgee-O have been adopted, and now it’s Ninja and Peaches’ turn! Here’s a report from Peaches’ foster home: “Peaches is the shyest of the bunch. Don’t let that fool you though, she really does enjoy playing!  She can be nervous of new things and noises but gets accustomed to them. She loves to…   read more >>

Pepper after surgery

Ladybird rescued Pepper and her kittens, Ninja, Peaches and Fudgee-O from Hamilton Animal Control. As you can see, Pepper had an issue with her eye and it needed to be removed. She came through the surgery with flying colours. Despite her eye issue, Pepper always has her happy feet going! Here’s a report from her foster home: “Pepper is a sweet girl that adore attention and pats. She loves to be talked to and does a lot of talking herself when she wants to tell you something (More food please? Let me out of this room!) She is only about a…   read more >>

Roberta

Roberta

We rescued Roberta from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Roberta’s foster home reports that she is active and healthy, likes to play, and seems to like their cat. But…Roberta isn’t too thrilled about being handled or picked up. She probably didn’t have much interaction with people before coming to Ladybird. For this reason, Roberta needs a home with no small children, and with someone who will be patient, and understanding about her aversion to being handled. Roberta’s foster mom is spending as much time with her as possible, so she learns that love and attention…   read more >>

Frankie

Frankie

** UPDATE – AUGUST 26th, 2015 – Frankie has been adopted! Woo hoo! ** We rescued Frankie from Burlington Animal Control where he ended up as a stray. Frankie was not happy being in a cage in the shelter, and showed his displeasure by being aggressive at the door of his kennel. The staff had a hard time with his disposition and the decision was made to euthanize him. Being a city shelter, the only way the public can view an animal for adoption is by seeing him in the kennel, and nobody was going to adopt a “cage aggressive”…   read more >>

Kiki

Kiki

We rescued Mimi and Kiki from a high-volume shelter in Laval, Quebec. They came into the shelter separately, but they became fast friends when introduced. Guinea Pigs do better in pairs or groups, so we are asking that they be adopted as a pair. Mimi and Kiki are sweet and curious guinea pigs. Mimi is the more adventurous of the pair, and Kiki is a bit shy, but still friendly. Children should be supervised at all times when handling guinea pigs. Guinea pigs need a large enclosure that is bigger than the typical cages sold in pet stores. Visit www.guineapigcages.com for ideas…   read more >>

Hope

Hope

The Oakville and Milton Humane Society reached out to Ladybird when they were overwhelmed with rabbits in their shelter. We were happy to take one when we had a foster home open up….and that bunny’s name is Hope! Here’s a note from Hope’s foster home: “Hope is cute and soft and very outgoing. She loves people and she is very curious and loves to explore. She is a good eater but prefers to play and be pet. So far her favourite thing is the time she spends running around and stretching and playing in her xpen. So far she likes…   read more >>

Zoe

Zoe

Sometimes, the best laid rescue plans don’t go exactly the way we think they will! We made arrangements to rescue a pregnant cat who found herself at Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. Arrangements were made with the vet and foster home to pick her up from HAC on a Saturday afternoon. But this sweet girl decided to have her babies on Saturday morning! So, we ended up rescuing mama Zoe and her five very new born kittens! We took them straight to the vet to be sure everyone was doing okay and the foster family took them home from…   read more >>

Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy

We rescued The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt from a GTA shelter. Due to a physical disability, the shelter was seeking an experienced home or rescue who was familiar with her condition and able to place her into foster care where the specifics of her special needs can be determined. Kimmy was barely surviving on an unkempt lot in Toronto when she was spotted by two employees of a local animal shelter. While there was concern for her welfare (neighbours believed she’d been abandoned), There was more concern about her health as she had difficulty maintaining her balance, and would sometimes fall…   read more >>

Otis

Otis

Ladybird rescued Zoe and her kittens from Hamilton Animal Control. The kittens were born in the shelter on May 16th, the same day we rescued them. Their foster mom did a great job helping Zoe raise her kittens, and now they’re healthy and happy and ready to find their forever homes! Here’s a note from the foster family about Otis: “Otis is the smallest and youngest looking of the kittens but is the only one who has started to purr. Otis loves people, is super friendly and is not timid at all. He loves to have his belly rubbed and…   read more >>

Sterling

Sterling at HAC

In May of 2015, we rescued Sterling from Hamilton Animal Control. Poor Sterling was brought into HAC by police when his owner was arrested. Unfortunately, no one came to claim him, despite initial calls to HAC saying someone was making arrangements to do so. We didn’t know what Sterling’s real name was, or anything about him other than he was really, really friendly and diabetic. We took Sterling straight from HAC to the vet to get his insulin levels straightened out. He then went to a foster home who has lots of experience with diabetic cats. Because of his diabetes…   read more >>

Sammy

Sammy

We rescued Rena and her kittens Sammy, JonJon, Clara and Cricket from Hamilton Animal Control! They were a little bit worse for wear from wherever they were living before they ended up at HAC. They all had diarrhea, and Rena was very dirty and had a lot of matting in her fur. But after a couple of vet visits and some TLC from their foster mom, they are ready to find their forever homes. Sammy’s foster mom reports that Sammy is cuddly, sweet and very active. He enjoys the company of the other cats in his foster home, and is…   read more >>
