Updates updates updates!

Updates updates updates! This is a big one…here we go! Charlie! Surgery today was a success. Charlie’s teeth were so bad, the vet had to remove every last one of them. The infection was so advanced, it was going up into his nose. Poor guy must have been in a lot of pain for a long time! While he was under anesthetic, the vet neutered him and removed the growth over his eye. It was a tough surgery, but he’s recovering well. He’ll stay at the clinic for a few days to be sure everything is okay. The staff also discovered… read more >>
Charlie

January 7, 2015 There really are no words. This type of neglect is incomprehensible to most of us. But here is poor old Charlie…his entire body severely matted, horrendous teeth, tumours in his mouth, a growth over his eye, infected ears, overgrown nails…the list goes on. Charlie showed up at Hamilton Animal Control as a stray on New Year’s Eve day. We are pretty sure he’s not a stray, as he has a hard time walking because of all the mats in his fur. A lot of animals are brought to shelters under false pretence though. Charlie belonged to someone, and… read more >>
Mister Wendal

We rescued Mister Wendal from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. Here’s a note from Mister Wendal’s foster mom: “OMCG! Oh my cuddly goodness! When I heard Mr. Wendal was at Animal Control with a ‘caution’ note on his cage I couldn’t believe it. While he is a tabby that never gets that ‘happy cat’ look on his face (you know that blissed out, too much food/milk look) don’t let that fool you, he is happy all the time. He has a permanent circle embedded in the fur around his neck from someone leaving a collar… read more >>
Happy New Year!

A quick Bitsy update before everyone starts their New Year celebrations!Bitsy had her dental surgery and spay on Monday. Her mouth was so terrible, she had to have all her inner teeth removed. Poor girl! She is healing well and still has her cute underbite fang as you can see! Bitsy was diagnosed with a heart murmur, and she has fluid on her lungs so she’s doing quite a lot of coughing. Our vets prescribed medication for this, and her foster home is monitoring her closely. She’s eating and acting pretty normally considering everything she’s been through since her rescue…. read more >>
Peach

We rescued Peach from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself a stray. Here’s a note from her foster home: “Rescued from Hamilton Animal Services, Peach is now free after being in a cage for too long. She is a lovely, affectionate, playful cat. She loves her people and would likely do well in a home with another cat or on her own where she can be the centre of attention. Peach is also a gentle cat and will lay on your lap for as long as you allow…what more can we say: Peach is a Peach!” Peach found her… read more >>
Bitsy

Bitsy was rescued from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We took her straight from HAC to the vet where she was spayed and had some much needed dental surgery. It was discovered that Bitsy has a heart murmur and she was doing a lot of coughing and gagging in her foster home. After many weeks of different treatment and medications, Bitsy was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea. The coughing is down to a minimum now, but she will always have to be on medication to keep the coughing at bay. It took her a while… read more >>

Martha

We rescued Martha from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec. She’s a hilarious little pig who loves to chat with you and lay down for ear scratches. Her favourite veggies are carrots, romaine lettuce, broccoli and apple. Martha doesn’t mind being handled and she’s quite friendly! We recommend C & C cages, or similar large enclosures for guinea pigs. Martha found her forever home with another Ladybird guinea pig named Pecan!
Babybel

We rescued Brie and Babybel from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec. They’re just the most unique piggies we’ve ever seen! Pretty black coats with grey and white. So cute! Brie and Babybel were probably not handled a lot in their previous home, so they can be somewhat skittish. For this reason, they won’t be suitable pets for small children. Brie and Babybel will need an adopter who is willing to work on their fear with lots of patience…and maybe a few treats! They love treats! Romaine lettuce, carrots, kale, apple…they love it all! And they devour their timothy hay… read more >>

Felix

We rescued Felix from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. He was already neutered when we rescued him, but he was very much in need of some dental surgery. We got him that surgery (eight extractions!) and he healed wonderfully. Felix is now ready to find his forever home! Felix is the ultimate lap cat. If you make a lap, he will put himself in it. He loves nothing more than to curl up with his foster people and enjoy some pats and love. He also likes to play, and his favourite toys are ones he… read more >>
Fred

We rescued Fred from Hamilton Animal Control. He was dropped off there by his owners who no longer wanted him. Fred is a shy rat, but his foster home is doing their best to have him be more comfortable being handled. He LOVES food, and will happily try all kinds of new snacks. We recommend large enclosures for rats like Critter Nation cages. The more space they have, the better! Fred is currently living in a single level version of a Critter Nation cage and he enjoys the room he has in it. Fred found his forever home with lovely people!
Phoenix

* Phoenix has been adopted by his foster home! Yay! * We rescued Phoenix from a high-kill shelter in Quebec. Here’s a note from Phoenix’s foster home: “Phoenix is a gentle and adorable creature who seems to prefer being left alone, but does not mind being pet in small intervals. This could change when he becomes more accustomed to his forever family. He sleeps during the day, but does not make a lot of noise when awake in the evening. His favourite toy is his wicker ball, and he loves to snack on raisins taken from your hand. Phoenix is full of curiosity… read more >>
Harry

We rescued Harry from a high-kill shelter in Quebec. He is one of the most friendly and adaptable pigs we’ve ever met! Harry found his forever home with a wonderful family!
Blizzard

We rescued Blizzard from a high-kill shelter in Quebec. He’s a friendly pig, but like most guinea pigs, he isn’t a fan of being picked up. He will chill for some ear scratches though! Here’s a note from Blizzard’s foster home: “Blizzard is really social. We have the cage in our main area and when he hears us talking amongst ourselves he often comes out and will start squealing at us- he puts his hands right up on the bars to look at us. He also does that noise when he hears us rattling around in the fridge or dishes… read more >>
