Peanut Butter

We rescued Peanut Butter from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. There’s nothing cuter than a wee baby piggy! Peanut Butter is a happy, active guinea pig and he needs lots of space to move around and explore. He’s a very curious pig and he likes to climb and jump and burrow. We suggest a large cage or pen for guinea pigs. Most of the cages sold in pet stores are far too small. C & C cages are an awesome alternative. There are loads of different design options and they’re cheap to make too! Peanut… read more >>

Cassidy

Cassidy had a rough start to his life. We rescued his mother Lala when she was pregnant, placed her into a foster home and she promptly went missing after clawing through a window screen and escaping her foster home. After 10 days on the run, she was found 11 blocks away from where she went missing. Lala had been hanging around the area for a few days, and had given birth August 1st. One baby was found deceased, and two other live babies were found but Lala wasn’t looking after them. A neighbour contacted someone they know who looks after… read more >>
Update on Lala’s kittens

As hopeful as we all were that Lala’s babies would be okay, sadly, one of the babies passed away last week. He was eating, playing and being a normal kitten one moment, then wen downhill very quickly and passed away in his foster home before the foster mom could even get him to the vet. Rest in peace wee kitten! The remaining baby, Cassidy, is going through some completely different issues. His foster mom noticed that this little guy was showing signs of neurological deficits and at times he seemed to be blind. He was also occasionally limping and guarding… read more >>
An amazing donation!

This is truly an amazing donation to Ladybird! This morning, Spencer Creek Animal Hospital veterinarian Dr. Christine Stubbs, neutered our newly rescued rabbit Lancelot, and removed a broken tooth that was causing him some issues. He came through the surgery well, and when we went to pick him up this afternoon, we were told that his surgery and further care until his adoption will be donated by Dr. Stubbs! Incredible! Thank you so much Dr. Stubbs and Spencer Creek for all you do for our small animals. Lancelot says thank you too! Here’s the original post by Dr. Stubbs: “Ice… read more >>
Lancelot

We rescued Lancelot from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. While at HAC, Lancelot was always urine stained on his underside, even after a bath, and he didn’t seem to be grooming himself. After his rescue and a vet visit, it was discovered Lancelot had a broken tooth that was making grooming painful. While Lancelot was under for his neuter, the vet removed the broken took. Lancelot is now pain-free, white and clean and grooming himself again! Lancelot does have a slightly misaligned jaw, so he should have his teeth checked frequently by a veterinarian who… read more >>

Herbie

We rescued Herbie from Hamilton Animal Control where he ended up as a stray. Here’s a note from Herbie’s foster home: “Herbie is an affectionate, sweet, gentle boy that loves lots of lap time. He is not sure about the other cats in his foster home, preferring to have his own space. When his foster mum is with him for one on one time he just purrs and purrs contently away. He would do best in a home where he has lots of human companions and lots of laps to share.” Herbie found his forever home with great people. So… read more >>
Harvey

Harvey was rescued from Hamilton Animal Control where he ended up as a stray. Here’s a note from Harvey’s foster mom: “Harvey is a purring machine and a chirper. He is not only cute but extremely sweet and loves to be held and cuddled. He especially loves his ear and head massages. Harvey is a high energy boy that is having a blast chasing and wrestling with his foster mate, Sparky. They tire each other out running through the house and then settle down for some lap time with their foster mum. Harvey follows his foster mum everywhere for cuddle… read more >>
Grace

We rescued Grace from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Grace is a very quiet kitten and she is comfortable relaxing in a snuggly cat bed or blanket. She does like to play a little bit, and she purrs up a storm, but she mostly likes hanging out in a lap for some pats. At first, we thought there might be something wrong with Grace because she wasn’t acting like a typical playful crazy kitten. She spent some time at the vet…went through several tests for parasites and viruses, but everything came back clear. So…turns out… read more >>
Lela

Our dear friend, family member and avid Ladybird supporter Lela M. turned 40 on Monday August 4th, and in honour of this wonderful person, we’ve name this latest rescue after her! Happy birthday Lela M! And happy rescue day Lela kitty! Please welcome Lela the persian cat to the Ladybird family! We rescued her from Hamilton Animal Control. She is the most loving cat, despite the horrible condition she was left in before ending up at Animal Control. Scabby, crusty skin, sparse fur, painfully thin and a mobility issue, just to name a few. These conditions needed checking out, so she spend… read more >>
Ivy

We rescued Ivy from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. When we rescued Ivy, she was very thin and it was obvious she had suffered some neglect. She has an issue with her eye which our vet said is likely a result of scar tissue. Initial medications yielded no improvement, so our vets suggested just letting it be. Ivy may have some reduced vision but her pupil is dilating normally. It’s possible over time it will lighten, but the eye will always be a bit cloudy. It doesn’t diminish her beauty one bit though! Here’s a note from… read more >>
Sushi

We rescued Sushi from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. He’s a super snuggler! His foster mom did a great write up about him: “Sushi anyone?Well, what can be said about Sushi, Sush and Sushi mcSush as he is often called? The first thing that sprung to my mind (and heart) upon taking Sushi home after his vet appointment (for neutering) was that it was totally obvious that this cat had been really loved by someone in his short life. As rescuers, foster parents, and animal advocates, we are always baffled how so many animals end… read more >>
Tiger Lily

We rescued Tiger Lily from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. She has a head-tilt, but it doesn’t slow her down at all. We took Tiger Lily to the vet to be spayed, and while she was under anesthetic, our vets looked into her ear and discovered a polyp deep down in the ear canal which is likely causing the tilt. She’s not in any pain, and won’t require any surgery, but out vets put Tiger Lily on some medication that will hopefully reduce the size of the polyp, but she will likely always have a tilted head…. read more >>
Mama Bigfoot

Look at all those toes! We rescued Mama Bigfoot from Hamilton Animal Control. She came into HAC with her 8 week old babies who were taken in by another rescue, and we were more than happy to rescue this sweet polydactyl girl! Mitchell Jr.

The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued Chloe and Mitchell Jr. from Hamilton Animal Control where they ended up as strays. These two sweethearts were too young to be away from their mother, but thankfully we had a foster home on hand who was happy to put in the extra time and care to look after younger kittens. The foster home did a great job and now Chloe and Mitchell Jr. are now old enough and healthy enough to find their forever home! They’re typical playful and cuddly kittens. They like other cats, dogs and are used to children. They must be… read more >>
