Happy New Year!

A quick Bitsy update before everyone starts their New Year celebrations!Bitsy had her dental surgery and spay on Monday. Her mouth was so terrible, she had to have all her inner teeth removed. Poor girl! She is healing well and still has her cute underbite fang as you can see! Bitsy was diagnosed with a heart murmur, and she has fluid on her lungs so she’s doing quite a lot of coughing. Our vets prescribed medication for this, and her foster home is monitoring her closely. She’s eating and acting pretty normally considering everything she’s been through since her rescue…. read more >>

June

June ended up at Hamilton Animal Control after her owner passed away. Ladybird rescued her from there and took her to the vet. We didn’t have any information about her and because she was a bit chubby, we assumed she was spayed. We were wrong! While the vet was spaying her, it was discovered that she had mammary tumours and many ovarian cysts. Poor old girl had been suffering! When the biopsy results came back, it turned out the mammary tumours were cancerous. The lab report stated that the vet had likely removed all the cancer when he removed the… read more >>

Phoenix

* Phoenix has been adopted by his foster home! Yay! * We rescued Phoenix from a high-kill shelter in Quebec. Here’s a note from Phoenix’s foster home: “Phoenix is a gentle and adorable creature who seems to prefer being left alone, but does not mind being pet in small intervals. This could change when he becomes more accustomed to his forever family. He sleeps during the day, but does not make a lot of noise when awake in the evening. His favourite toy is his wicker ball, and he loves to snack on raisins taken from your hand. Phoenix is full of curiosity… read more >>

Norton

We rescued Norton from Hamilton Animal Control. Poor Norton had been at HAC since June! He was quite ill when he first came into HAC, and he’s not well socialized. He’s feeling better physically, but he’s still very shy and frightened of human contact. After some time in his foster home, it was obvious that Norton was not a fan of being handled and was beyond just being frightened. Though he doesn’t bite out of fear, it seems he’s had some trauma in his little life and he is petrified of everything around him. He’s in a large, spacious cage… read more >>
Lucille’s surgery

No matter how small, we strive to provide all of our rescued animals the best care they deserve. When Lucille the rat developed a lump, her foster mom took her to the vet for a check up, and it was decided the best course of action was to remove it. Our awesome vets did that surgery yesterday, and as you can see, Lucille is doing just fine post-op. Lucille will be taking some time to recover from her surgery, and when she’s healed, she and her sister Amélie will be made available for adoption again. We can’t provide this type… read more >>
Rambo

We rescued Rambo from Hamilton Animal Control. Rambo was introduced to another kitten named Rocky we have in our care who lost his littermate a few weeks back. They are very close in age, and they became fast friends. Having a companion is very important for social and physical development in kittens. He and Rocky got along swimmingly, and they found their forever home together!
To whoever stole our donation box from the counter at Dundas Pet Valu

To whoever stole our donation box from the counter at Dundas Pet Valu; we can only hope it was an act of utter desperation for you to sink as low as to steal from a charity. We don’t make a heck of a lot of money with our little donation boxes that are sprinkled at various locations around the city, but we have wonderful businesses who support us and promote what we do by having these boxes displayed in hopes of donations. It’s a nice thing they do for us, and your petty thievery has bummed us all out. We… read more >>

Koshka

We rescued Molly and her four kittens from Hamilton Animal Control when Molly’s kittens were about 3 weeks old. The kittens are now ready for adoption. Koshka is a sweet and fluffy grey kitten who would love to go to his forever home with one of his siblings, or to a home with other cats he can be friends with. Koshka has been adopted, and he’ll have two kitty siblings at his forever home to be friends with!
Thankful

The ladies of Ladybird Animal Sanctuary are thankful for so many things. Our family and friends, our foster homes, our adopters, our volunteers, our donators, our supporters, our vet clinics… and so much more. We couldn’t do what we do here at Ladybird without all of you, and for that, we are so thankful! And we know the animals we rescue are thankful too! Warm Thanksgiving greetings from all of us here at Ladybird! Happy is thankful for all the hugs she is receiving in her foster home!
Happy

We rescued Happy from Hamilton Animal Control. When she came into HAC as a stray, Happy was covered in fleas and lice, she was painfully thin, she had a large infected open wound on her neck, an ulcer in one eye, and as you can see, the other eye is damaged. Despite all that, she was ‘kneading,” purring, head bonking and loving up the staff at HAC while they examined and treated her. Hence…her name. Happy had her damaged eye removed while she was under for her spay surgery. Turned out there was a very small deformed eye in the socket that had… read more >>
Kiwi

We rescued Sully and Kiwi from Hamilton Animal Control. They’re active and comical rats who are bonded to each other. For that reason, they must be adopted as a pair. Here’s a note from Sully and Kiwi’s foster home: “Kiwi was really sick and quite a bit smaller than his brother when he was first taken in but with several weeks of antibiotics and handling he is a friendly, curious, healthy little guy. He loves treats! His favourite treats include: crackers, bananas, apple, and yogurt rat treats. When we have him out of the cage to socialize, he is cuddly and… read more >>
