Dixie Update

Dixie update! Our vets have advised that Dixie’s leg should be removed. Muscle atrophy, and the open wear marks that are susceptible to infection mean that the best thing for Dixie is to amputate her leg. She mostly walks with the leg held up now, so she should adjust quite easily to the change. Her surgery is scheduled for January when she’ll be old enough to be spayed at the same time. The estimated cost of just the leg removal is around $800. So…we have until mid January to raise that much money! If you visit Canada Helps through our website,…   read more >>

Awesome Youth Ambassadors!

Ladybird is so proud of our youth ambassadors. Today we send out an enormous ‘thank you’ to Katie who has raised hundreds of dollars for Ladybird over the last two years. She recently cleaned out her closet and decided to sell all of her old toys to help raise money for Ladybird. We have now deposited approximately $370 into our account thanks to Katie’s garage sale (& with a little help from her younger brother Derek!). This girl has one big heart, & on behalf of our furry friends, we send out a heartfelt ‘thank you’. Katie, you are an…   read more >>

Foster home needed for Penny

Foster home needed for a special kitty! We rescued Penny from Hamilton Animal Control on Friday. She’s been at our vet since then where they’ve been treating her injured eye. Not sure what is wrong with it exactly, but thankfully the eye doesn’t need to be removed, as was first thought. Penny is a sweet and laid back kitty. She’s in need of a foster home now so she can start her road to recovery, and eventually become someone’s forever kitty! Could it be you? Head over to fill out a foster application.

Good News Today

We rescued Gloria today and she went straight to her forever home. Yippee Gloria!

Sad news

Sad news today. Tabitha’s kittens were just too young and too weak to fight off the upper respiratory virus that they and their mother caught while at Hamilton Animal Control. Two kittens passed away this morning in their foster home, and during a visit to the vet, it was realized that the remainder of the kittens were beyond help, and they were humanely euthanized at our vet clinic. Our hearts go out to the foster home during this sad time. They went above and beyond for these kittens and their mother…giving them the love they deserved, and the care they wouldn’t…   read more >>

Our Donors are the best!

Thank you to everyone who donated to us in the last couple of days. Your kindness is what keeps us able to do what we do, so thank you, and please keep it coming! Because of your donations, we are planning another couple of rescues. Keep an eye on this page for updates soon. In the mean time, here is a photo of Pumpkin in his foster home…. which is now his forever home! After just two days, Pumpkin’s foster family knew they couldn’t live without him. Yay Pumpkin!

Good News Bad News sandwich

Here is a good news, bad news sandwich. Bad news: Someone stole our donation box from De La Sol Yoga Studios. The staff found it smashed in the parking lot. That stinks! Good news: We have rescues planned for tomorrow. Stay tuned! Bad news: We won’t be able to facilitate too many more rescues in the near future because we are almost out of money. We can only take in as many animals as our bank account allows. If you have been wondering if you should donate, please do! We can really use it now. You can donate here: Good news:…   read more >>

Ramon’s New Home

A contribution from Beth Koruna, Hamilton Mountain One Friday evening in September we were sitting on the front porch of our friends’ house when a skinny cat came down the street. Being animal lovers, we called him over to say hello. He was very vocal and ran right over to us. We quickly realized he was a stray, as he was extremely skinny, ratty and not neutered. My friend Linda got him some food and he gobbled it up as fast as possible. After he ate, he sat with us for about a half an hour and then went on…   read more >>

Beautiful Black Cats for Adoption

Ladybird Animal Sanctuary recently rescued some super cute black kittens and a cute mom and they’re now available for adoption! Meet Wendy, Winnie, Willow, Winter, Warhol and Wembley! Black cats are often overlooked by potential adopters. In fact, rescues and shelters typically find that black cats are the least likely to be adopted and end up waiting the longest for their forever homes. We think that stinks! Black cats often have the friendliest personalities and they deserve a great home no matter what colour they are! Adopt today!

Whistlin’ Dixie!

We rescued Dixie today! She has a deformed leg, but she gets around pretty well despite it. She’s at the vet now being assessed to see what the options are to fix her up. Then she’s headed to a great foster home. We’ll keep you updated!

Way to go Giselle!

Look at that haul! Giselle (an LAS Youth Ambassador) asked for donations to Ladybird in lieu of gifts for her 8th birthday. What a great kid. And what generous friends! Thanks G! You’re amazing! For more info on our Youth Ambassador program, click here!

Seeking Special Foster Home

Can you help? We are desperately trying to find a foster home for Trouble and Squash…a bonded pair of eight year old cats who are currently at Hamilton Animal Control. Their owner became ill and sadly, they ended up at the shelter. A home with no other cats would be best, only because Trouble has a weight issue and needs to be on a special diet. Time is running out for these sweet kitties. We really want to rescue them, but just need a place for them to go! When you foster for Ladybird, we provide vet care, food and…   read more >>

Rest In Peace Little Bean

It is with the heaviest, saddest hearts that we bring you this news. Our vets did everything they could, but poor Little Bean could not fight off whatever illness had taken over his young body. Little Bean’s health went downhill very quickly yesterday afternoon. The vets exhausted every type of treatment available to them. His tiny body was dying, and eventually there was no denying he had past the point of recovery. We gave our vets permission to euthanize him to end his suffering. He touched many hearts in his short time on this earth, and we are so grateful…   read more >>

Sick Little Bean – We need your help!

We need your help! Our sweet Little Bean became very ill yesterday and spent the night at the emergency vet clinic. He was so sick the vets weren’t sure if he would make it through the night. Miraculously, he pulled through and we picked him up this morning and transferred him to one of our regular vets where he is now being treated. The vets are not sure what caused his sudden decline in health, but they’re doing all they can to make him feel better. We’re so glad he made it, and we’re keeping all our fingers and toes…   read more >>

Roscoe’s Rescue Day

We rescued Roscoe today! He’s pretty sick with an upper respiratory virus that he contracted at Hamilton Animal Control during his stay there…but we got him out of that shelter, got him vet care and placed him in a foster home where he can start his recovery. Roscoe will be searching for his forever home when he’s feeling better. Even though he’s feeling under the weather, he’s still a purry snuggle bug sweetheart!

THANKFUL

On Friday we rescued these two cuties… They’ll be available for adoption soon.                 Today, three cats were adopted! Jasmine and Faith went to their forever home together! We’re so happy they will spend their lives in each others company.                 And, Jenna went to a wonderful home where she will have two other cats to be friends with… Yay Jenna! We Ladybirds have a lot to be thankful for this weekend. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

Little Bean’s big adventure

We rescued this little bean yesterday…and that will be his name! Little Bean came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray, with no siblings and no mom. He’s only about three weeks old. He was in a big metal cage, shaking and crying all by himself, and we just couldn’t leave him there like that. Little Bean is now safe and warm in his foster home. We’ll keep you updated on this little cutie! p.s. thank you Kori Pop for the inspiration behind Little Bean’s name

A & E MUSIC | Birds of a Feather

The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary’s resident rebels with a furry, and fantastic, cause – BY David McPherson, Hamilton Magazine On average, Hamilton Animal Services euthanizes approximately 3,000 cats and 300 dogs annually. Unlike Oliver Twist, Dickens’ classic orphan boy— who had the gall to ask for more—all Oliver the cat could do was plea for help with sad, emerald eyes. Enter Lisa Winn. The Hamilton singer heeded the cat’s call. You see, Oliver has Feline Leukemia, a contagious disease, and a local shelter was set to euthanize him until Winn stepped in. The animal’s plight tugged at her heart. Later, Oliver’s…   read more >>
