Remembering Tanner

“Tanner was a wonderful dog and integral part of our family. Over the last few years we have made many happy memories with our little man and we will always cherish our time with him.” – Shauna and Mavreen Tanner was the sweetest boy on the west coast. A little shy at first, it didn’t take long for him to completely charm whoever he happened to be meeting. He stole many hearts along the way. With a troubled start, Tanner was one of the lucky ones and was rescued by animal lovers Shauna and Mavreen. Thanks to them he got… read more >>
Remembering Jake

“Sweet Jake…At my side for sixteen years. My constant companion through it all. A fast friend to everyone you met…Human and otherwise. Sleep well my little man. Her love for animals shone brightly when Jake was by her side and by her side did he stay. Through thick and thin, Jake was a loyal companion. He traveled from east to west coast along the Trans Canada… read more >>
Remembering Marta

Marta, the gentle giant, could not have been a better friend to Ali. Large in stature and sweet in demeanor, this Great Dane was a girl who always stuck close by the side of her companion. And the two, side by side, were an unforgettable pair. Ali, sadly had to say goodbye to her best friend this year and it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Life goes on, but the little (or big, in this case) paw prints of our beloved furry friends are deeply imprinted on the path behind us. RIP Marta May. A donation was made by… read more >>

Hamilton Music Notes – Ladybird Sanctuary Fundraiser
View Magazine, by Ric Taylor Back in 2002, four area singer/songwriters came together as an extraordinary super group dubbed the Ladybird Sideshow but after a couple of years and one CD, Live at the Orange Lounge, one bird (Erin Smith) flew the coop and the remaining pursued their individual musical muses. Their friendship however, remained strong and a love for animals galvanized their bond. It was their mutual love for animals that compelled these musicians to continue the name but with an institution that could make a difference. “I’ve been doing animal rescue on my own in a small–scale way… read more >>

Ladybird Saviors
By Michael Howie, Oakville Today The Ladybird Sideshow was a popular act, featuring four talented singer/songwriters that toured Canada and produced a record. When the band separated to pursue individual projects, one passion kept three of them together and has grown into the Ladybird Animal Sanctuary. “Lisa [Winn] always talked about how her dream would be to live on a farm and have animals all around who she could help,” explained Ladybird co-founder Janine Stoll. “We can do that,” we said. “Let’s start an animal sanctuary.” For the last year, co-founders Stoll, Winn and Melissa McClelland have worked tirelessly to… read more >>

A Sad Goodbye to Gilbert

We have sad news today. After winning his battle with Upper Respiratory Virus, our little Gilbert fought a very brave fight against a second unknown illness that saw him spending many days in a vet clinic hooked up to tubes and wires. His little body couldn’t handle whatever it was that was making him so sick and he eventually ended up unresponsive and in a coma. We spent many agonizing hours consulting with Gilbert’s foster mom and the vets at the clinic; it was decided that because there was no chance he would recover, he should be humanely euthanized. He… read more >>

Good day for a rescue…
Gilbert was rescued today from a high-kill shelter in Hamilton, Ontario. He has a slight head tilt, most likely caused by severe ear mites. Gilbert has been treated at the vet, and his foster home will continue his treatment until he has a clean bill of health and is ready for adoption. Thank you to everyone who has donated to us, even though we don’t have our charitable status yet. (still working on it!) Rescuing sweet kittens like Gilbert is what your donations allow us to do!

Sweet summer update

We have lots of news since our last update! NEW ADOPTION NEWS Slinky has finally been adopted since coming into our care in December of last year. We wish them both a long happy life in their new home… All of Melissa’s foster kittens were adopted, as you know. But their mom Lucy remained without a home…until last week when Melissa’s parents decided to adopt her! How awesome… read more >>
Kittens for adoption
Remember our newborns? They’re big, happy and healthy now and ready to find new homes. We’re asking that this particular litter be adopted in pairs, as Camille and Fiona are a little shy, and would benefit from being adopted with one of their more outgoing siblings. It would give them added confidence in their forever home to have a kitty friend with them. Please contact us if you are interested in adopting a pair of these sweethearts!
Why we do what we do…
Remember our little guinea pig Oscar? He was neglected by his owners, then dumped at the Hamilton Animal Services shelter back in March. He had almost no use of his back legs, severe skin issues and he was underweight. The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary took Oscar from the shelter, got him some vet care, and placed him in a foster home. Well…look at Oscar now! The foster home did an amazing job! He’s been given proper nutrition since his rescue from the shelter and he has regained the full use of his back legs. His skin issues are long gone thanks… read more >>
Rest in peace Whiskers
Our hearts are broken to tell you that sweet little kitten Whiskers has passed away. She was thriving and doing well, but passed away unexpectedly a few days ago of unknown causes. Our vet has since done a medical check on the rest of the family, but is at a loss as to why whiskers died. In her short life, Whiskers touched many hearts, and caused many smiles, and for that we’re thankful to have met her. We’ll miss you Whiskers.
