Abner
Abner, Irving and Smithers are three of a group of guinea pigs surrendered to a Niagara area shelter by their owner because they had too many animals. The shelter separated the boys from the girls, and then they separated Smithers from the other boys because he was getting picked on. Poor guy is by himself now, but in an enclosure right next to the other two so he’s not completely isolated. We plan to have Smithers neutered so he can find a forever home with a solo female.
These sweet piggies are very happy to be out of the noisy shelter and safe and warm in their foster home. They’ve done well in their foster home over the last few weeks, and they’re now ready for their forever home!
We’re asking that Abner and Irving be adopted as a pair.
Here’s a note from their foster mom:
“Abner is an outgoing little piggie, who is a bit skittish about being picked up. But once you have him on your lap, he enjoys a bit of time with his human, until he decides that he has other things to attend to and then he gets a bit fidgety and asks to be put back in his home.
He loves his veggies and vitamin c wafer each day, and definitely makes some noise when he knows you’ve got them! He gets along wonderfully with his brother, Irving.
Irving is a high-energy little pig, who is quite skittish about being picked up. He is fine, for a bit, once you’re holding him, but will give you a run for your money trying to handle him! As he is quite skittish, he would do best in a calm household with adults and older children. Irving loves getting fresh hay and tends to popcorn around his enclosure when he sees it! He gets along wonderfully with his brother, Abner.”
Please adopt Abner and Irving!

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some examples of appropriate cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
