Coral
We’re happy to report that Coral has found her forever home! Congratulations, sweet girl.
Coral was found as a “stray” and brought to Toronto Animal Services. No owner came forward to claim Coral, and we were happy to take her in when a foster home opened up.
Guinea pigs are herd animals, and should always be housed in pairs or groups. It helps with their confidence and overall wellbeing. We’re not sure how Coral came to be a single pig, but there are pet stores and back yard breeders who will sell a single pig to anyone who has the money. It’s extremely frustrating that some people don’t do right by the animals they sell – though we really can’t expect much from those who make money breeding/selling living beings while thousands of them already here are being abandoned, surrendered and euthanized every day. But we digress…
Coral had a vet visit and she received a clean bill of health. She’s now ready for her forever home!
When Coral first arrived into our care, she was scared and mostly hid. But over the past few weeks, she has started to come out of her shell. She will now zoom around her enclosure when she knows treats or veggies are coming. She still doesn’t want to be handled though, and for this reason, we would not recommend she go to a home with small children.
In Coral’s foster home, there are other guinea pigs in the same room, and she will have very chatty conversations with them. We are asking that Coral go to a forever home with other female pigs or a neutered male. We hope that when she’s adopted, new pig friends will be a great comfort to her.
Please adopt Coral!

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some examples of appropriate cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
