Billie’s baby 4

Billie's baby

Billie gave birth to four babies on April 22nd. This little one was born with a physical deformity, but he was doing well for the first few days. Then, his foster family noticed he wasn’t keeping up with his siblings, and he wasn’t gaining weight. Following advice from our vets, his foster family started supplementing his feeding, but despite their best efforts, poor wee piggy passed away. Our hearts go out to the pig’s foster family, and to Billie and her remaining babies, who are thankfully doing well. Sleep well little one. We’ll never forget you.

Shelly

Shelly @ foster

After being in our care for almost three years, Shelly passed away peacefully in her foster home after suffering an infection that vet care and medications were not helping.  She was a sweet old girl, and our hearts go out to her foster family and her turtle friend, Fluffy. Rest in peace, Shelly. We’ll never forget you.     Shelly was found at the Royal Botanical Gardens by a staff member and brought into Hamilton Animal Services. Poor Shelly has been through the ringer. She’s missing a back foot, and it looks as if something had been tied around her…   read more >>

Bear

Bear

* After being in our care for eight months, Bear lost her battle with cancer. Our hearts go out to Bear’s foster mom and to everyone who met and fell in love with her. * Bear came into Hamilton Animal Services after a house fire. Thankfully she was not injured. After many attempts to contact Bear’s owners after the allotted hold period at the shelter, Bear’s owners did not respond, nor did anyone come forward to claim her. We were thrilled to get Bear out of the shelter when a foster home opened up. When she arrived at HAS, Bear…   read more >>

Gerdy

Gerdy

We had to say goodbye to our sweet permanent resident kitty, Gerdy, on April 12th. Her little body just couldn’t fight any longer. We want to send a big thank you to Gerdy’s foster family for taking such great care of her. And to the vets and staff at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for treating Gerdy with love and dignity. Sleep well, Gerdy. We’ll never forget your sweet face. Gerdy arrived to Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She was microchipped, but the chip was never registered. Nobody came forward to claim Gerdy, and when a foster home opened up…   read more >>

Bluebell

Bluebell @ foster

We are extremely sad to report that Bluebell passed away suddenly in her foster home. She had been her normal self the night before and when her foster family woke in the morning, she had passed suddenly at some point in the night. There were no outward signs as to what happened, but we have sent her wee body to the vet to see if we can get an answer. Our hearts go out to Bluebell’s foster family, and to little Benson, who had a very close bond with her. Sleep well, Bluebell. We’ll never forget your sweet face.  …   read more >>

Gabby

Gabby @ foster

Gemini and Gabby were two of several animals brought to Hamilton Animal Services due to an eviction/hoarding situation. They spent a few weeks at HAS before we were able to rescue them when a foster home opened up. HAS were given no history (medical or otherwise) for Gemini and Gabby, and it is assumed neither of them were spayed. Gabby had an issue with mobility. She could get around okay, but was a bit wobbly and her back end would give out on her at times.   Both cats had quite big bellies, though neither cat was pregnant. They were both very sweet…   read more >>

Niblet

Niblet

We’re sad to report that wee Niblet passed away suddenly. Despite vet visits and medication, he couldn’t shake the respiratory infection that had been troubling him since his arrival, but there was clearly something more going on we didn’t know about that his little body just couldn’t handle.  We’re heartbroken to lose such a young baby, whose life was truly just starting. Our condolences go out to Niblet’s foster family. Rest in peace sweet Niblet. We’ll never forget you.   Lincoln County Humane Society contacted us when they received a stray baby rat with injuries to his foot and tail. Poor…   read more >>

Frankie

Frankie

We had to say goodbye to Frankie yesterday. Thank you to one of Frankie’s foster moms, Kylie ( The Brow Room ) for loving Frankie right until the end, and for writing this beautiful tribute to her. Sleep well beautiful Frankie. We will never forget you. 💔 #Repost @thebrowroom.hamont ・・・ The hardest part about taking on an abandoned animal is finding out why. There’s always some bullshit reason someone gives up on these tiny souls. Sometimes it presents its self right away. Sometimes it takes weeks, months. What made you to disposable to the heartless human that left you? . Frankie’s was…   read more >>

Diamond

Diamond @ HAS

Diamond lost her fight this morning. Despite being given the best medical care that could be provide to her, Diamond’s tiny body just couldn’t handle everything that was happening to it. She was dehydrated, she had worms, and who knows how long she had gone without proper nutrition before she came to us. Baby bunnies are so fragile at the best of times… it’s even tougher to survive being an abandoned baby bunny. We were hoping for a better outcome, but we take comfort that Diamond was surrounded by love when she passed. Sleep well little Diamond. We’ll never forget…   read more >>

Lenny

Lenny

Lenny was found as a “stray” and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. This poor old guy was in really rough shape. He was very skinny, dirty and had trouble with his balance. Despite how he must have been feeling, he was a very friendly rat. He was definitely someone’s pet before being dumped outdoors. The morning of his scheduled vet visit, Lenny’s foster family woke up to find him lethargic and struggling to walk. By the time he arrived at the vet clinic, it was clear Lenny was in cardiac distress. Because of his already frail condition and advanced age, there…   read more >>

Dorothy

Dorothy @ foster

Sadly, after two months in foster care, Dorothy’s health took a turn for the worse. Blood tests and xrays at the vet showed many concerns, the biggest of which was Dorothy’s heart. Because of her advanced age, and pre-existing health issues, the chance of Dorothy recovering was slim. The last thing we wanted was for Dorothy to suffer, so after a discussion with her foster family, it was decided the best thing for Dorothy would be to let her go. We’re devastated, but also thankful that Dorothy got to spend her last months surrounded by love. Sleep well, Dorothy. We’ll…   read more >>

Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter rescue day

January 26th, 2020 We are devastated to bring you this news. We had to let our sweet Peanut Butter go. Yesterday, we picked her up from OVC and she went back to her foster home. Shortly before she left the clinic, the vet gave her a shot of slow release pain meds, and they sent her home with more pain medication to try to keep her comfortable. Throughout the night, it was obvious the medications weren’t working. Peanut Butter didn’t want to stand or be picked up, and any movement made her yelp out in pain. She was urinating and…   read more >>

Scratchy

Scratchy

We’re sad to report that Scratchy passed away suddenly in his foster home. We’re not sure what happened, but his foster family came home to find him passed in his cage. Our hearts are broken for his foster family, and his brother Itchy, who is certainly missing his companion. Rest in peace, Scratchy. We’ll never forget your sweet face.       Windsor Humane Society reached out for help when they received an overwhelming number of guinea pigs. We were happy to assist and we took in Itchy and Scratchy. They were surrendered to the shelter because their owner no…   read more >>

Bingley

Bingley

We’re sad to report that Bingley lost his fight with cancer in late June. Our hearts are broken for him and his foster mom. Sleep well, sweet Bingley. We’ll never forget you. Bingley came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was never claimed by his owner. When he arrived at HAS, Bingley was infested with fleas, his ears were infected and he was a bit unstable on his feet. When a foster home opened up, we got Bingley out of HAS and to the vet for a check up. Blood tests came back normal, so shortly after his first…   read more >>

Amy

Amy - photo by Pets in the City

Our sweet Amy has crossed the rainbow bridge. During Amy’s last week she declined so quickly and we learned that the cancer had spread all through Amy’s lungs and it was making it hard for Amy to breathe. There was nothing that could be done and because Amy had lost her sparkle and was in a noticeable amount of discomfort we decided that as hard as it was, it was the best thing for Amy to say goodbye. Amy was with me and the amazing and loving staff at the Animal Hospital of Stoney Creek as she crossed the rainbow…   read more >>

Asana

Asana @ HAS

* Rest in peace Asana. We were hoping for a happy ending for you, but inside your funny little body were too many issues we couldn’t fix, and that would not allow you to have a good quality life. We’re so sorry. We will never forget you. *   Asana was found as a stray in Hamilton and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. As you can see, her back leg is pretty wonky! We’re not sure if it was a birth defect, or if the leg was broken and healed like this, but it doesn’t seem to bother her. She…   read more >>

Beans

Beans @ HAS

Shortly after Beans was diagnosed with liver and gallbladder cancer, he passed away suddenly in his foster home. Our hearts go out to Beans’ foster family. Even though he was only with them a short time, they were very attached to him. Rest in peace Beans. We’re heartbroken the cancer was so far advanced that we couldn’t help you, but we’re glad you passed in the arms of people who loved you…

June

June - photo by Willow Bean Photography 2

June had been with us for many months before being diagnosed with pancreatitis . A few months later, she had surgery to remove a large tumour from her pancreas. Though she showed some improvement after the surgery, her health began to decline again a few weeks later. At her last vet visit, another large mass was found in June’s abdomen. Surgery was not feasible and there were no other treatment options that would help. June was suffering, and that was the last thing we wanted. After discussion with Dr. Stubbs and June’s foster mom, the heartbreaking decision was made to let…   read more >>

Petunia

We had to let our sweet Petunia go. She had been doing great until a few days ago when she stopped eating and just wasn’t her normal, happy self. Tests at the vet showed that her kidneys were failing. The vet sent Petunia home with medications to help with nausea, and keep her comfortable. Not too much later, it was clear that Petunia was nearing the end, and we had to let her go. Our hearts are broken for Petunia and her foster mom, but we’re thankful Petunia spent her last days in a home surrounded by love, instead of…   read more >>

Stella

Stella

Stella was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by her owner because she was “not social.” Staff at HAS noticed Stella seemed to be having trouble breathing, so they reached out to us for help. We got Stella to the vet, and once they had her sedated for an xray, it was clear as to why Stella was breathing strangely… she was in an advanced stage of heart failure. Our vets advised that Stella’s condition was not treatable with medication or surgery. She was struggling to breathe and she was suffering. That was the last thing we wanted for her. The…   read more >>
