Thistle

Thistle

* Thistle has been adopted by a lovely family! Woo hoo! * * December 21st, 2023 * Shortly after her arrival, Gwen gave birth. We had no idea she was pregnant, but she had four babies during the night. Quite a surprise for her foster mom to wake up to. Unfortunately, one baby didn’t make it, but the other three are doing well so far. Gwen is a VERY protective mom, and she’s telling off everyone who comes near her babies. Understandable, after everything she has been through. She just wants to keep her babies safe. If they stay healthy…   read more >>

Marceline

Marceline

* Marceline has been adopted by wonderful people, and she’ll have other cats to be friends with. Yay! * Marceline ended up at Burlington Animal Services with her siblings as a stray litter. All of her siblings were adopted, but the shelter noted that Marceline had a minor issue with her bum. It was very red and swollen. Because municipal shelters are limited in how much vet care they can provide, the shelter reached out to us for help. We were happy to get Marceline out of the shelter, and she went straight to the vet to get checked out….   read more >>

Raspberry

Raspberry

Raspberry’s owners went to Hamilton Animal Services to surrender their “hamster” because they no longer wanted her. Paperwork was filled out, and when shelter staff opened the box Raspberry arrived in, they were certainly taken aback to find not a hamster, but a guinea pig inside. A very frightened guinea pig with extremely overgrown nails. With a world of information at our fingertips, it’s tough to imagine that a person wouldn’t realize that they had a pet guinea pig – not a hamster. We can only hope that Raspberry wasn’t fed hamster food her whole life, seeing as guinea pigs…   read more >>

Hayward

Hayward

Hawk and Hayward were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when their owners no longer wanted them. Hawk and Hayward’s owners had purchased them from a pet store six months before surrendering them. We were happy to take in Hawk and Hayward, and they’re now settling in at their foster home. These boys are shy, but sweet. They definitely know when the treats are coming! They wheek and follow their foster mom everywhere to see what veggies are coming their way. So cute. Hawk and Hayward were given a clean bill of health at the vet, and now they’re available for…   read more >>

Ella

Ella

* Duke and Ella have been adopted by their foster family! Yay! * Duke and Ella were brought into Hamilton Animal Services as strays and they were not claimed. These two were showing serious signs of neglect. Their fur was matted and dirty, their teeth are horrendous, and Ella has a large, pendulous mammary tumour that almost touches the floor when she walks. Duke is not neutered, and it’s not likely that Ella is spayed. It’s possible they were used for breeding and were discarded when they got too old to produce puppies, but we will never know… Duke and…   read more >>

Harbour

Harbour

Harbour was found in a field in Ancaster and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. She was extremely thin, infested with fleas, and wasn’t putting weight on her back leg. Shelter staff treated Harbour for the fleas, and sent her to the vet for xrays. No fractures or any other reason for her lameness was seen on the xrays, so Harbour was sent back to the shelter to wait out her stray time. Poor Harbour didn’t want to eat, and her gums were very pale. Over the week she was at the shelter, her health went downhill. Being a municipal shelter,…   read more >>

Jason

Jason

* We are shocked and saddened to report that Travis and Jason have both passed away. Everything went normally with their neuters, and both surgeries were routine and uneventful. But the next morning, Jason was struggling. He was rushed to the vet, but was sadly beyond help. As a precaution, Travis had an exam at the vet. He was behaving normally, so he was sent back to his foster home. Travis was doing well over the next few hours – active and eating, but the next morning, his foster family awakened to find he had passed away during the night….   read more >>

Benji

Benji @ foster

* Benji has been adopted by his foster family! Woo hoo! * On Christmas Day, Benji’s owner was taken into hospital and Benji was brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Benji’s owner would no longer be able to care for him, and no friends or relatives came forward to claim him, so shelter staff reached out to us for help. We were happy to take this sweet boy in. The shelter had been a very stressful place for Benji, and he spent a lot of time pacing his kennel looking for his owner. Poor guy must have been so confused about…   read more >>

Barbie

Barbie

* Ken and Barbie found their forever home with lovely people! Woo hoo! * Ken and Barbie were found separately as strays and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. They were both very frightened little kittens, so Animal Services staff introduced them in hopes that they could comfort each other. Their plan worked perfectly, and Ken and Barbie quickly became inseparable. We were happy to get these adorable kittens out of the shelter and into a quiet foster home. Their foster family were prepared to take the time to socialize Ken and Barbie, and help them learn that humans aren’t as…   read more >>

Debbie

Debbie

* Debbie found her forever home with lovely people and another pig to be friends with! Woo hoo! * Debbie came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. It’s more likely she was dumped by her owner. Domestic animals don’t have the survival skills that wild animals do. They often starve to death, or are killed by predators when they’re abandoned outdoors. There is always an alternative to dumping, and there are many resources available. Dumping a pet is never the answer. Despite being abandoned, Debbie is a sweet and friendly pig. She’s loving all the space and attention she’s…   read more >>

Jacob

Jacob

* Jacob has been adopted by fantastic people, and he’ll have other pigs to be friends with in his new home. Yay! * Wilhelm and Jacob were brought into Hamilton Animal Services as strays. They spent some time at the shelter and were up for adoption, but when Wilhelm developed a large mass on his neck, the shelter had to remove them from their adoption program. When we were at the shelter picking up other animals, staff there showed us Wilhelm and Jacob. Staff explained that the cost to have Wilhelm’s mass treated was beyond their financial constraints as a…   read more >>

Dew

* Sprite, Fanta and Dew have been adopted together by a wonderful person! Woot! * Sprite, Fanta, and Dew came into Hamilton Animal Services as strays. The were without their mother, and too young to be away from her. They were not yet fully eating on their own, and they were suffering from an upper respiratory infection. We were happy to get these sweet kittens out of the shelter when a foster home stepped up. We got them to the vet on their rescue day, and they were started on medication and special food. They’re now settling in at their…   read more >>
